When HPA opened its first small, full service non-profit hospital 18 years ago you could count every one of them on three hands. Now there are thousands, and even for-profits are cashing in on the affordable market. It is a major reason the stunningly rapid improvement in animal stats nationwide.

Happy National Pet Month from Animal Care Trust! This month serves as a reminder to never take our pets for granted. After all, they take so little from us, and offer so much in return. 88% of people are saying it costs more to care for a pet - food and vet costs being major drivers. On top of that many more people have pets post lockdown. As Chair of Scottish SPCA I’m seeing rising calls from people to ( often very reluctantly) give up their pets. To get ahead of this we’re moving beyond the bricks and mortar of our rescue centre model to be much more visible and accessible in our communities - right near people’s homes where advice and support is most needed. Our new partnership with the excellent Citizens Advice Scotland is a terrific example of recognising and preserving the essential people- animal link and giving support on a whole range of people issues. SEE THE GREAT PHOTOS BELOW which show the areas that will be so much more visible at community level such as expanding Pet Aid (our lifeline service to provide food , pet supplies and vet care ) to significantly increasing our rehoming and fostering services.
