Exactly one week today, I successfully defended my MSc thesis titled "Performance of West African Dwarf Lambs Fed Maggots as Protein Supplement in a Silage Mixture" at the Department of Animal Science (University of Ibadan). This research journey has been an incredible experience, and I'm proud to have explored the potential of sustainable and innovative feed sources in livestock production. My study investigated the use of maggots as a protein supplement in silage mixtures, and the results are promising! I'm grateful for the guidance of my supervisor, the support of my colleagues, and the encouragement from my loved ones. This achievement wouldn't have been possible without them. As I close this chapter, I look forward to contributing to the advancement of sustainable agriculture and animal production. Let's continue to push the boundaries of innovation and make a positive impact in our industries! #University_of_Ibadan #UI #MSc #Thesis #Sustainability #Agriculture #AnimalScience #Research #AcademicAchievement"

Some people know how to grow plants without understanding their genetics. Some people understand genetics but don't know how to grow plants. Possessing both hands-based skills and conceptual knowledge -- to the point where you can innovate and solve real problems - is called *knowhow*. This unique category of expertise is the future of knowledge, and we're obsessed with it. So, we're kicking off a monthly series called "Got Knowhow" where we feature individuals who've got knowhow in spades. Andrew Barocco, Head of Plant Breeding and Genetics at Area 2 Farms, is our favorite kind of expert because he's as enthusiastic about sharing his knowledge with others as he is putting it to practice. He sits down with me to talk about what brought him to this niche world of organic indoor agriculture, what he's working on now, and his thoughts on the dangers of monocultures. He also shares some information on why store-bought jalapenos are less spicy than ever, which coincides with recent news on the "de-spicification of jalapenos" that's enraging consumers. Plant lovers, food enthusiasts, people who have fond memories of their genetics chapter in high school biology, or everyday folks who like learning cool stuff: click through to our newest blog entry below! https://lnkd.in/eyjMghWj #organicfarming #plantbreeding #organicagriculture #knowhow
