Happy Whole Grain Day!🌾
Today marks the annual celebration of Whole Grain Day in Denmark, a special day dedicated to the whole grain - bran, and germ included. Across the nation, from canteens and bakeries to everyday institutions and various workplaces, there's a festive atmosphere as people engage in tasting, discussing, and even participating in fun quizzes about whole grains 🎉
The event is arranged by the Danish Whole Grain Partnership (Fuldkornspartnerskabet), an inspiring example of how public-private partnerships can effectively transform dietary habits and open new opportunities for food businesses. This collaboration has led to remarkable achievements: today, over half of the Danish population (54%) meets the recommended daily intake of 75 grams of whole grain, a stark contrast to the mere 7% back in 2004. The increased intake of whole grain in Denmark documents the strength of collaboration between academia, government, and industry🤝
The strategic work initiated by The Danish Whole Grain Partnership is important for public health, as consuming whole grains lowers the risk of cardiovascular issues, type 2 diabetes, and certain types of cancers. The orange whole grain logo, introduced to customers in 2009, highlights products with a significant proportion of whole grains🟠
