Let’s start with Total Wine, I just love their stores, visual impact of displays, overwhelming product selection, prices and knowledgeable sales staff. With 263 stores producing over $6 Billion in sales. #totalwine How did they build this unique brand? Robert Trone Co-owner 1) Focus on the customer. 2) Investment in employees. 3) Profitability PEOPLE - PRODUCT - PRESENTATION - PROCESS = PROFITABILITY Their “Direct from Winery” program offers them the ability to maintain low prices. And “Yes” they watch Costco. I found Mr. Tyrone’s comments on the current sales trend, very insightful. With the current trend towards health and moderation. Wine -7%, Spirits flat and beer -4%. However non-alcoholic beer/wine + 30%! #wine #spirits #beer Total Wine plans on opening 15 -20 stores a year. A huge opportunity for growth. Costco sales on Beer/Wine and Spirits fall somewhere around $7 Billion. Fireball Paces Whisk(e)y Category, Continuing Its Growth Run While RTDs and Tequila have boomed the past few years, the whisk(e)y category has continued to churn forward, with overall volume nearing 59 million cases in 2023, excluding flavored offerings, up from 50 million cases in 2018, according to Impact Databank. Last year, however, many of the brand leaders saw declining volumes after several years of solid gains. Top player Fireball was the exception, gaining 1.4% to 7.3 million cases, up from 5.2 million cases five years ago. Still, the cinnamon whisky’s growth rate slowed from its five-year average of 7% in 2023—a year in which parent company Sazerac revamped its distribution footprint, parting ways with RNDC in favor of a diversified profile featuring Breakthru, Johnson Brothers, Martignetti, Southern Glazer’s, and beer distribution giant Reyes. Sazerac also saw a leadership change at mid-year as company veteran Jake Wenz succeeded Mark Brown as CEO in June. By volume, Sazerac is second only to Diageo in the U.S. spirits market, with volume of approximately 33 million cases. #liquor #fireball #nips

Retail placement is calculated, backed by data that many, including myself, may or may not totally understand. Pairing complementary products in close proximity is something I can understand wholly. I wanted to share this fantastic placement of one of the latest releases by Sazerac Company and their Traveller Whiskey by Chris Stapleton. I live in Louisiana so it is a special case for liquor and spirits, where it is available in retail from Walgreens to Total Wine & More and many retail locations in between. This particular placement was at Rouses Markets and it struck me as genius and unique. Pairing a great whiskey or bourbon with a premium steak is, well.... perfection! Well done to the Sazerac team and the local distributor for this smart placement! Side note, if you haven't tried the new Traveller Whiskey, I fully recommend it.
