Wishing Joseph Turner and Micah Gaudet the best of luck with their new venture. Two ideas worth highlighting from their introductory podcast align directly with MuniReg objectives. 1) The idea of utilizing public sector principals. MuniReg delivers free information that #codeenforcement staff voice frustration in retrieving, . This allows for greater efficiencies and better utilization of existing resources. In the private sector, folks would be banging down our doors. 2) "If the only thing in life is championing others good ideas, thats a pretty cool thing to do" is a direct quote. MuniReg monitors communities across the country, and through its social media posts, LinkedIn Newsletter and direct email alerts champions others good ideas. In this case "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery" rings true. Though each community has it unique qualities, if something works for one community it most likely will work elsewhere and should be replicated. Of course, conversely if a problem or concern exists, it should be on everyone's radar. There are a lot of good ideas out there, public and private sector, and knowledge is power. #MuniReg #BuildingBetterCommunities #localgovernment #blight #vacant #localgov #zombieproperties #zombieforeclosures #abandonedproperties #vpr #vpro #foreclosure #urbanplanning #citymanagement #codeviolations #vacantpropertyregistration #municipalities #nuisanceproperties #citymanager #cityadministration #cityadminstrator #vadproperties #communitydevelopment #blightfight #taxforeclosure #planning National League of Cities United States Conference of MayorsAmerican Planning Association

No organization exists to defend and advocate for the city or county manager as a professional. That is -- until now! Micah Gaudet and I are proud to introduce to you the American Association of Municipal Executives (AAME.org). We are building a community that supports, develops, and advocates on behalf of city managers and public sector executives. The American Association of Municipal Executives will be an organization built on the singular purpose of serving you -- the public sector executive. The three core pillars of AAME will be: ✅ Community & Networking ✅ Personal & Professional Development ✅ Advocacy & Education We have some big, big plans! But plans and ideas are meaningless if we don't have your support. We want you to join us and take an active role in building an organization that will change the landscape of public administration. You have the opportunity to be part of something special -- something historic. If you want to truly make a difference -- go to AAME.org today and become a FOUNDING MEMBER. You can also catch this week's episode of the City Manager Unfiltered Podcast where Micah and I discuss the purpose and motivations behind the creation of AAME in more detail here: https://lnkd.in/dUf2SN_A

Thank you for to LGcomms for the opportunity to share a platform with Will Mapplebeck, Francesca Day and Colm Howard-Lloyd yesterday in Sheffield. As someone who occasionally wears two hats as a public affairs consultant and as an elected member I can see the value of engagement from both sides of the fence. The discussion yesterday was a very important one as we approach an important twelve months, with moving parts and potentially lots of change ahead. Many comms professionals carry out public affairs engagement in their roles without realising it. The main takeaway from yesterday was how important and integral PA can be in your communications mix. Relationships must not be taken for granted, whether they are old, new or yet to exist. Good public affairs can help you achieve your goals if done effectively - identifying your top targets, getting your message right and most importantly understand the context in which you are operating in. Local authorities are surrounded by political stakeholders and decision makers on a daily basis. However, by going beyond your Town Hall you will realise that by investing in public affairs you will see a return on your investment.
Next up at 11.30am an exciting discussion on Public Affairs. We'll be joined by: Will Mapplebeck, Core Cities UK Colm Howard-Lloyd, LGA Head of Public Affairs and Stakeholder Engagement Francesca Day, Essex County Council Public Affairs Cllr Emma Brickell, Manchester City Council and Grayling Public Affairs Share your thoughts and questions using #CommsAcad23

The Trust for Civic Life and $8 million to fund civic participation in rural communities are examples of what philanthropy can accomplish when funders work together. That was the goal when Stephen Heinz, president of Rockefeller Brothers Fund, asked Carnegie Corporation of New York to join a funder collaborative a year ago, resulting in an early commitment of $3.5 million from the foundation. Today the collaborative has 15 funders. The Trust’s work is grounded in research that was funded by philanthropy and conducted by the American Academy of Arts & Sciences. Its report titled "Our Common Purpose" made a strong impression. It provides pragmatic, nonpartisan approaches to countering mistrust and division in our society. A second round of grants to support civic entrepreneurs is planned for later this year, and if all goes as planned, the collaborative will invest $50 million over the next five years. https://lnkd.in/ebyPnCVt
We are proud to support a new grantmaking collaborative investing in local communities as a path to a healthier democracy. Today, the Trust for Civic Life awarded $8 million to 20 “civic hubs,” local groups in rural communities that are tackling important regional issues, bridging differences, and drawing residents back into civic life in creative ways.
