"In 2024, though, it feels like we are truly at an inflection point. Pittsburgh can become a tech hub of the future if we lean into the areas where we excel — the confluences of AI, software engineering, life sciences, advanced manufacturing, and robotics — and avoid a collective lack of focus." All true. But this is not sufficient. Technology and innovation alone will not create the influx of investment and business talent we need to drive and scale. We can do it, but we need to look beyond technology alone. #innovation #startup #pittsburgh https://lnkd.in/eDn5iGcw

Startups in the fields of Robotics/ Energy/ Health/ Construction/ Mining The time has come to discover this unique opportunity to enter the space industry! Why enter the Space industry? What is the opportunity? This evening we are hosting an online session to answer these questions. Here’s the background: As part of the first stage in our mission of advancing humanity's future beyond Earth, we at Creation-Space are focused on developing dual-value technologies. This means we take technology designed to improve life on Earth and develop a version that enhances our survival in space. That's exactly what our accelerator program “EXPAND” is designed to accomplish. (AKA the opportunity) The program begins in just a few weeks and registration closes on the 14th of May. We invite you to join today’s session that covers the program in detail, the potential opportunities in the space market, and answer your questions. ⇩Link to the register for the session in the comments below ⇩

Israel is often referred to as the "Start-Up Nation" due to its thriving tech ecosystem and high number of start-ups relative to its population. Here are 10 notable inventions and innovations to come out of Israel's tech community: 1. **Waze** - A popular GPS-based navigation app that uses real-time user data to provide traffic updates and optimal routes. 2. **USB Flash Drive** - The first USB flash drive was developed by the Israeli company M-Systems in the late 1990s. 3. **Iron Dome** - A mobile air defense system developed to intercept and destroy short-range rockets and artillery shells. 4. **PillCam** - A swallowable capsule that contains a miniature camera. It's used to capture images of the digestive tract, especially in areas hard to reach with traditional endoscopy. 5. **Mobileye** - Advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) using vision-based technologies for autonomous driving. 6. **ReWalk** - A wearable robotic exoskeleton that allows individuals with spinal cord injuries to stand, walk, and even climb stairs. 7. **Watergen** - A technology that extracts clean drinking water from ambient air, which is particularly useful in arid regions or during natural disasters. 8. **Cherry Tomato** - While not a tech invention, the cherry tomato variety that's popular worldwide was developed and improved in Israel. 9. **Solar Window** - Developed by the company Pythagoras Solar, it's a transparent window that also functions as a solar panel, generating electricity while letting light through. 10. **ICQ** - One of the first instant messaging platforms, developed by the Israeli company Mirabilis in the 1990s. These are just a few examples, and Israel continues to be a hub for innovation across various sectors.

At Curiosity Lab we're all about startups that are changing the world. And one of ours is i-charging. They're a company that's working to create technology-based products and enhance innovation, differentiation, design and quality within the most sophisticated segments of the infrastructure for electric mobility. That's resulted in a new concept for charging from 50 kW to 600 kW, a DC charger with an output up to 1kV that can charge more than one EV simultaneously—sharing the power between its outputs. 🔋 They want to be a technological reference for the electric mobility sector and believe it is possible to do more sustainably by adopting new tools and methodologies and leveraging their know-how with global ambition. All these analogies encapsulate the transformative potential and future of technology. These metaphors not only innovate but inspire us to think beyond the conventional.
Elon Musk characterized the mission to mars as "a lifeboat for humanity". Steve Jobs characterized the personal computer as "a bicycle for the mind". Henry Ford characterized the automobile as "a faster horse". [ok, one of these things is not like the others 😅] People try to pitch startups as "Uber for X" to take advantage of this association, mapping, and modeling technique. What characterizations come to mind that have alluded to the potential of an ambitious effort or a new technology?

Happy 2024! Detroit is making moves, and this year will be epic. Remember, we are the city that put the world on wheels. We invented mobility in the last century, building automobiles along with an upwardly mobile middle class. Mobility and advanced manufacturing will take center stage this year. The Detroit Regional Partnership is leading this effort with a $52M grant fueling numerous regional organizations as part of the Global Epicenter of Mobility (GEM) . This effort dovetails with the visionary leadership of Bill Ford, Chairman at Ford Motor Company who transformed Michigan Central into an Innovation Campus, fueled by an innovative collaboration with Newlab, an accelerator which is bringing new life to some amazing mobility startups. A new vision of mobility is emerging right here in Detroit, expansive, electric! and fueled by new technology, as well as a global need to quiet the planet and reduce carbon. Startups like LIVAQ , Grounded and countless others are flocking to Detroit. Nurturing this mobility ecosystem will unlock a world of limitless opportunities, creating an economic powerhouse that is more inclusive, sustainable and democratic. Tech entrepreneurs like Johnnie Turnage and Alexa Turnage are bringing the tech talent together with Black Tech Saturdays, ensuring that The economics will be driven by a more expansive vision of stakeholder capitalism— an ecosystem that respects every constituency from employees, customers, the community and beyond. I am hoping there will be bipartisan support for growth of tech companies in PA. For years, the PA tech sector has only received a smidgeon of support while peer states outperform PA in the growth of tech companies, especially Ohio and Indiana investing large amounts of capital to support investors and founders. Of our 9 peer states, PA ranks 7th in support for startups, while PA is 4th in the country for commercial intellectual IP, the very foundation upon which new company growth can spin out. Plus, the work force is here produced by the many leading universities and trade schools. Fingers crossed: can PA cross the Chasm with policy support and funding for high growth companies?
