Definition of An Icon: One on One with Rupert Kinnard Rupert Kinnard, an African American gay cartoonist, is celebrated for creating the first ongoing gay/lesbian-identified African American comic-strip characters. These characters, the Brown Bomber, a teenage superhero, and Diva Touché Flambé, his lesbian partner, hold profound cultural and social significance in the LGBTQ+ and African American communities, resonating with a wide audience.
