How did I overcome judgmental relatives when I shifted out of clinical medicine? One of my dear friends requested me to pen this after reading my previous post. In one line, by being considerate of myself. Who knows what's the best for you? Only you. We do live in a world where everyone around you has an opinion on what others should do instead of looking in the mirror. My relatives still send me government job openings which mind you I've left and come for my current role. I just wanted my immediate family to be on board with my decision. One mistake we make is, we bombard our parents with something they've not expected and hope they immediately agree to it. Everything takes time. For parents who have already thought of their kid as a surgeon or a renowned physician it's a hard pill to swallow. It takes so long for a person to decide they want to shift to a non clinical role then why won't their parents take at least as long? Share all your research, make them talk to people who are already successful in that field and tell them why it's important for you. Don't lose patience. All great things take time. #physician #healthtech #nonclinical #jobs

People are sometimes surprised to learn how many physicians, who already work long hours at an often stressful job, also make time to take on outside work. Whether it's in or out of the medical field or in something more "passive" like real estate or other investments, nearly 4 in 10 docs reported some kind of side income on the 2023 Physician Side Gigs Report from @Medscape What about you? Do you have a side hustle? If you'd like to pick up an easy and flexible side gig, try your hand at medical surveys. It's no secret workforce shortages continue to plague the medical laboratory community. 😔 But while the problems affecting the recruiting pipeline are well known, the solutions to alleviating the issue don't often receive as much attention. 💡 In a new research publication, Angela Tomei Robinson MS MLS ASCPcm Laboratory Medicine, and Dr. Rodney E Rohde, SV, SM, MB (ASCP), FACSc, lay out the issue before emphasizing why the conversation must be focused on ATTRACTING, RECRUITING, and RETAINING medical lab professionals to solve staffing issues in the long term. "The challenges for an out of sight out of view medical profession must not continue the path of short-term band-aids being offered," the authors note. "On the job training with reduced entry level personnel standards is never the answer for any profession." To get a full scope of the issue and proposed fixes, download the full paper in the comments section below. Thanks to everyone who continues to shine a light on this topic and advocate for medical lab professionals! #medicallaboratory #laboratorytechnician #laboratoryprofessionals #staffing #recruitment

Medical laboratory technologists and technicians deserve the high salary. The work those guys do 😯,is indeed exhilarating. Those are soldiers guiding the hospital jurisdiction from contamination and sporadic outbreaks from biomedical samples like stool, urine, sputum, blood, pus,CSF, tissues. They are directly exposed to infectious diseases like tuberculosis, COVID-19 imagine that is ridiculous . Should one contact the infection he will spread to the whole family without knowledge when the motif was proper diagnosis for better management of the patient condition. The risks come from needle stick injuries, blood spills, infectious sputum.Even the laboratory can burn from faulty electric connections or flammable liquids contact fire . Some acids produce fumes, some are carcinogenic. These professionals have contact with patients without knowledge of the medical conditions posing a risk.Should they commit an error it will lead to wrong diagnosis guess what the legal fraternity 'men with big files 'will be on the neck to send them behind bars or pay heavy fines that they are not paid. With solidarity let's give credit to the "men in white" for the good work they do despite the strifes.#medicallaboratoryscience #medicalaffairs #medicscanwrite
