Another Friday, another LGBTQ+ inclusion post! Most of this series has been focused on inclusive people operations, but I want to focus on standalone initiatives today. I’m talking about learning and development, ERGs, and other formal programs. A few ideas: 🌈 Promote awareness and understanding among all employees by providing comprehensive LGBTQ+ training and education programs. Trainings should cover LGBTQ+ issues,  terminology, pronouns, appropriate language usage, and best practices for supporting LGBTQ+ colleagues.  🌈 Implement ongoing training programs instead of one-off sessions during Pride.  🌈 Establish an LGBTQ+ ERG (employee resource group) where employees can connect, share experiences, and collaborate on initiatives to improve workplace inclusivity.  🌈 Collaborate with LGBTQ+ advocacy organizations and community groups to support LGBTQ+ causes, participate in events, and engage in community outreach efforts. 🌈 Create a supplier diversity program, partnering with LGBTQ+-owned businesses and suppliers to support LGBTQ+ entrepreneurs and promote economic inclusion. Here are some ways we can all contribute to making safer spaces: Listen and Learn: Educate yourself about LGBTQ+ issues and experiences. Listen to the voices of LGBTQ+ individuals and respect their perspectives. Use Inclusive Language: Be mindful of pronouns and avoid assumptions about gender and sexuality. As Pride month ends, I would like to remind everyone that celebrating #inclusion , & #diversity (including disabilities, neurodivergence, age) should be all year & actively be a part of organizations' goals! In fact, 83% of Gen Z candidates are searching for companies that have a true commitment to DEI. In June, I enjoyed attending 10+ informational/Q&A panels from myGwork - LGBTQ+ Business Community 's week-long #WorkPride event! Each workshop was very informative- with speakers from different countries around the globe, from large organizations to startup companies. Here are my 3 general takeaways: 1. Have tangible goals to measure each aspect of diversity (Diversity, equity, & Inclusion) in your organization, create a scorecard for each. Listen to your workforce & re-evaluate as needed. 2. For #ERG meetings & limiting burnout, have a clear title (in the email or meeting), purpose (what are you discussing?) , & engaging activity planned. Don't be afraid to ask your ERGs "how can we better serve you?" 3. To ensure you are attracting & retaining a diverse workforce, have diverse interviewing panels, focus on job requirements (skills required), and make yourself seen by these candidates through diversity job boards, sourcing, etc. Thank you for reading! 👋

Today is International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia, a day to stand proudly with the LGBTQ+ community around the world and celebrate the vibrant diversity of sexual orientations, gender identities, and expressions that enrich our lives, workplaces, and the world. At Google, we believe that everyone deserves to feel safe, valued, and empowered to be their authentic selves.
