I can personally attest to the challenges faced as a diversity hire, as a young ambitious careerist where I was labeled as such despite having more experience and education than the white individual I reported to, and consistently outperforming them. The necessity for diversity hiring is clearly evident due to the systemic racism ingrained in corporate practices. If racism was not an ingrained part of American history diversity program would not be necessary. Even thirty years ago and persisting today, hiring processes continue to overlook many educated and talented Black and brown individuals solely based on their race. Current statistics indicate that Blacks still encounter systematic discrimination when it comes to significant purchases such as housing and cars, as well as when applying for jobs, often being offered lower salaries in comparison to their white counterparts. This disparity underscores the urgent need for continued efforts to address and rectify racial inequalities in various aspects of society.

We recently lost one of our best employees. He received a fantastic opportunity elsewhere, and while we were disappointed, this is what we told him: “Thank you for all your wonderful contributions. We hate to see you go, but we are so excited for you and would like to congratulate you on this new chapter. We wish you every success.” Why is it that when someone resigns, they are often treated like a traitor? When an employee resigns: Thank them for all their contributions. Treat them with respect. Wish them the best. Treat people well on their way in and out! Remember, how we handle departures speaks volumes about our leadership and company culture. People aren’t just resources; they’re human beings with dreams and ambitions. Supporting their journey, even when it leads them away from our team, builds a reputation that attracts top talent. Losing an employee is never easy, but it can be a moment of growth for everyone involved.

Interesting points from video to ponder and debate: 1. It is now almost impossible to hide or suppress talent in digital age 2. 55% of job switches are due to better pay (32%) or better opportunities (23%); real reasons coming out and are no longer a taboo 3. Companies expect loyalty but are unwilling to pay the price for it (and probably also hinting when companies do lay-offs), whereas a competitor is willing to do so; put your money where your mouth is 4. In a free market, if companies look out for their own profits, why shouldn't employees? Morals can't be one-way; employees need not feel guilty about it, current employer need not be fearful of poaching instead focus on talent and talk to employees and their needs; competitors need not be afraid as it is legal ? #Resignation? When I first stepped into a leadership role, resignations were a major source of stress for me. I was deeply invested in my team members' professional goals, often staying updated on their progress and ensuring they were on the path to achieving their objectives. I remember feeling a personal sense of loss and frustration when someone decided to leave. I would pour my time and energy into training them, helping them navigate challenges, and covering for them when needed. I envisioned their growth as part of a larger strategy for scaling the team and the company. When they resigned after all that effort, it felt like a setback. Over time, I've learned to approach resignations with a different perspective. It’s important to recognize that turnover is a natural part of building a successful team. My focus has shifted to understanding the right questions to ask during the hiring process and how to handle resignations more effectively. Building a solid team involves continuously finding and nurturing good candidates. It’s an ongoing challenge, but one that’s integral to leadership and organizational growth. While resignations are never easy, I’ve come to see them as opportunities for renewal and improvement.
