Physicians for Informed Consent’s Post

What treatments are available for hepatitis B infection? As Hep B resolves on its own in most cases, usually only supportive treatment is necessary. Treatment options include rest and hydration, antiviral medicines and, for individuals who are exposed to infection, immune globulin is available. The BEST "TREATMENT" is Hepatitis B avoidance... The BEST WAY to "avoid" Hepatitis B is vaccination... A simple, safe & effective equation !! #public_health_matters #public_health_education #vaccines_work

No..there are no treatments for chronic hepatitis, which can lead to cancer, liver failure and death. Meanwhile the vaccine is safe, effective and prevents these things.

You probably deleted my previous message by accidental mishandling, but it seems very important since it comes directly from WHO. Physicians for Informed Consent FYI, chronic HBV infection is one of the leading risk factors for hepatocellular carcinoma (i.e. liver cancer), accounting for at least 50% of primary liver tumors worldwide. Regarding these cancers, what do you advise your readers, dear PIC members? Waiting for spontaneous recovery? Rest and hydratation? Just to understand…

Did you know that a $750,000 liver transplant is often needed in patients with chronic Hepatitis B infection? And that a liver transplant by the best centers is associated with 98% one year survival and approximately 80% five year survival? And that $750,000 could be saved and there would be no conversation about five year survival if hepatitis B Vaccine were administered ?

Here's some real informed consent: Chronic hepatitis B infection is INCURABLE, and is a leading cause of liver cancer and liver failure. Antiviral treatments (when they work) only suppress symptoms, must be taken every day for the rest of one's life (that's thousands of doses costing tens of thousands of dollars) and have many serious risks and side effects, including the multiple black-box warnings, including: "Severe acute exacerbations of hepatitis B have been reported in patients who have discontinued anti-hepatitis B therapy, including entecavir. Hepatic function should be monitored closely for at least several months after discontinuation. Lactic acidosis and severe hepatomegaly with steatosis, including fatal cases, have been reported with the use of nucleoside analogues." On the other hand, 3 doses of the extremely effective hepatitis B vaccine are extremely safe (no black-box warnings), and provide 95% protection against chronic infection lasting at least 30 years (and probably one's entire lifetime). "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." Benjamin Franklin https://www.accessdata.fda.gov/drugsatfda_docs/label/2010/021797s011lbl.pdf

The hepatitis B vaccine is extremely safe and was improved with the introduction of Heplisav, which only requires 2 shots (one month apart). I recently got this vaccine because I sometimes handle bodily fluids. I had zero negative reactions to it. I only felt grateful that I will not have to wring my hands over the debilitating disease the virus could cause. For those who are metal-shy, there is also zero aluminum in Heplisav-B. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!
