#SpaceX Launches Compact #StarlinkMini for $599 #SpaceX has unveiled #StarlinkMini, a portable version of its satellite internet product that is compact enough to fit inside a backpack. Early Starlink customers received invitations to purchase the Starlink Mini kit for $599, which is $100 more than the standard kit. They were also given the option to bundle Mini Roam service with their existing plan for an additional $30 per month, with a data cap of 50 gigabytes. This means a residential customer on the standard plan would spend $150 per month. #SpaceX aims to reduce the kit's price in the future, although there is currently no stand-alone Mini Roam plan. Weighing around 2.5 pounds with the kickstand, the Mini antenna is about 60% lighter than a standard #Starlinkdish and offers download speeds of over 100 Mbps. The first Starlink Minis are set to arrive in July, appealing to travelers and those seeking a #lowcost backup internet connection. #SpaceX's popular satellite internet service, powered by over 6,000 satellites, boasts more than 3 million customers across 100 countries. It is amazing how fast the world is changing. SpaceX just demonstrated a video call on an unmodified cellphone using only Starlink satellite connection. So far, communicating through satellite links required special equipment, was laggy and of poor bandwidth. Just a few months back, we saw advertisements highlighting the state-of-the-art where you could hold a cellphone up in the air for 15 mins to transmit your location and an SOS message if you got lost outside the wireless coverage. Is anyone aware of a satellite internet provider that offers a service that is suitable for holiday homes, but yet still provides some baseline connectivity all year round? SpaceX Starlink and other internet providers do provide a scheme where you can turn on and off connectivity, but in a world of smart homes that's not so useful. It would be good to have a system that is rate limited or capped, and then you pay extra to uncap it on-demand.

SpaceX's Starlink internet service will soon provide blazing fast 8Gbps download speeds to commercial customers, even while they're on the move—whether on water or in the air! 🌊✈️ Starlink Engineering VP Michael Nicholls shared a speed test in Jacksonville, Florida, where Starlink hit an incredible 8,102 Mbps. And this wasn’t even on the ground! Right now, Starlink offers download speeds between 50 Mbps and over 300 Mbps with its standard antenna. For commercial customers, SpaceX can set up larger antennas to deliver an astonishing 10 Gbps under the Community Gateways tariff. These gateways are a game-changer for remote areas lacking fiber networks. The first one in Unalaska, Alaska, already provides broadband through local ISP OptimERA. Although this one is land-based, SpaceX plans to adapt the technology for Navy ships and aircraft. ⚓️✈️ Earlier this year, SpaceX received an experimental FCC license to test drone landing pads as "gateway" stations. Building a land-based gateway requires a $1.25 million advance and costs $75,000 per month to maintain.
