My perspective on (R)evolution: revolutionary benefit for the climate by low fuel burn, low carbon footprint (compatible with the most advanced sustainable aviation fuels), low contrail impact (compatible with zero aromatics fuels) evolutionary in the sense that no or marginal changes in the infrastructure are needed, and our customers can rely on their operational logic, while improvingtheir climate footprint step by step, in line with regulatory constraints. This German aircraft is a two-seat high-performance aerobatic machine, which is why the picture shows it in its natural attitude! (what is attitude? How does it fly upside down?). It is powered by a fuel-injected Lycoming IO-580 that produces 315 HP. It first flew in 1988 and has been in production ever since. It is designed for +/- 10 gs with one person and +/- 8 gs with two (what is a g? Why is it important?). Its airfoil is symmetrical and is mounted at a zero angle of incidence (what does all that mean and why would it be that way?????) The consortium works included designing and manufacturing of aviation composite parts. Mentioned elements aim to minimize the compound rotorcraft drag by reduction of the main rotor head drag, thanks to aerodynamically optimized shape of the fairings and implementation of innovative partial air sealing between mobile parts of the fairing. What is unique about the RACER? 🏥 From the technical point of view – the rotor head that makes possible to reduce the drag of the helicopter at the high cruise speeds. It will allow RACER to perform time-critical missions like medical evacuations or urgent inspections of power lines. 🌍 There are also environmental benefits like lowering fuel consumption (= less emissions). Additional benefits are lower noise and less mechanical stress on the tail of the helicopter. The LATTE project team has now completed its task by delivering hardware to Airbus Helicopters.
