Today's spotlight is Andrew C. who is an Inside Sales Representative with the Chicago White Sox! Andrew shared insights on what he finds most rewarding about his job, what inspired him to begin a career in sports, and his go-to ballpark food! 1) What inspired you to originally pursue a career within the sports industry? As a kid I was never that great of an athlete but always was passionate about sales and making meaningful connections with people. So, sports were the perfect fit for me! 2) What is the portion of your job that you find to be the most rewarding? There are chances in this job where you are able to create lifelong memories for people. Whether that is upgrading someone to seats they have never sat at or opportunities to create lifelong memories. 3) Where do you feel you've grown the most since joining the White Sox? I would say the power of looking beyond wins and losses. Of course, the season has not gone the way the White Sox wanted but it has been a powerful learning experience. There is still value in coming to the ballpark no matter what the teams record is. 4) How do you maintain a positive work-life balance when working in an industry that has such an inconsistent schedule? I would say that a year ago I was helping manage a deli in Boston and now work for a professional sports team. I have so much respect for people that work in the food industry. It has made me realize how lucky I am and that there is no reason to be negative. 5) If you could instantly become an expert at any skill, what would you pick? I would say writing. I currently have a blog, but it is a dream of mine to release a book one of these days. 6) What is your go-to ballpark food during a game day? I really enjoy a polish sausage and griddled onions and yellow mustard.

Get to know Elliott! Ed Gibson our Regional Sales Manager-West When did you join Elliott? August of 2016. Tell us about your professional experience that helps you in your sales role. I have been in the crane industry for over 36 years, 26 in the western States and 10 years internationally. The biggest benefit is knowing the customer and dealer base in the western territory. Long-standing relationships with the end users help to get in the door and talk cranes with them. Most of all, I enjoy the crane customers. What is your sales territory? 15 of the western States from Texas to Hawaii. What do you like best about working for Elliott? The people and it being a family-owned business; it is fun to work with people that are excited about what they're doing. What do you consider your biggest accomplishment at Elliott? Being able to work with all the teams. Sales, service, parts, engineering, manufacturing and HR. Being a team player inside a great organization. What is your favorite Elliott product and why? I really don't have a favorite one. We are very diversified in our product line; it is fun to work with all of them. What are your personal hobbies? I enjoy individual sports such as snow skiing, golf, sailing and mountain biking. I also enjoy cooking for my family. What is your all-time favorite movie, band/musician, or TV series? Movie: Tombstone. Band: The Eagles ( stuck in the 70s). What is your favorite sport and team? The 49ers (Super Bowl 2024, ya!). Tell us about your family, pet(s), or give a fun fact about yourself! Sales Stories and Insights 7: Bizarro Carrot  Although I realized after I left my first Wall Street firm, how toxic it was, I've never regretted my 2 years there. It was my first foray into sales. It was an exciting and heady time in which I applied myself 1000% and looked forward to every sale and new client I could help. Despite Carrot's negative and demeaning behavior to my team members, I liked him. He pushed me to be the best and as long as I omitted or embellished any of my missteps, we got along and I learned a lot from him. I soon realized I wanted his role. I wanted to lead, coach and manage a sales team. He taught me so much about being a Sales manager. He taught me how I never wanted to be a Sales Manager. I knew instinctively that I wanted his role but I wanted to behave myself completely differently than he did. I would be my sales team's endless cheerleader. I would celebrate every win. I would communicate gratitude for them being on my team. I would ask them for feedback on how I can be a more effective manager. I would be kind, caring and endlessly empathetic. I would hold my sales team members accountable to their goals and help them exceed their goals however I could. I would gracefully release them if they had no passion or interest in their work or in helping people. I would refer them to contacts in industries they were truly passionate about. I would cheer my sales teams to exceed their quotas by mid-month and fully believe in their ability to do it and be the least surprised when they achieved it. In short, I would be the complete opposite of Carrot and nearly every other Sales Manager I ever knew. I would be Bizarro Carrot. And I would be far more successful than they ever were. Key Insights: Learn from the best, yet trust your instincts that you can succeed at a higher level by staying true to yourself and doing things your way even if it's different than how everyone else does it. Typically promotion posts are a flex. Let's try something different. Back in Feb, I stepped into a Senior Sales Director role. It's easy to read these Linkedin highlight reels, feel the pang of comparison and ask yourself "Am I doing the right thing?" The problem is you rarely get to see the reality behind the scenes. Sales Leadership is HARD. The last 3 years has been the most challenging and demanding seasons of my career. Say goodbye to your calendar whitespace and say hello to anxiety. It's also been one of the most rewarding. A few highlights: - 4 of my AEs swept the 4 eligible spots to P Club (FY23) - 5 figure (monthly) commission checks have become the AE norm. - Alex Varden left support, came to "try sales", became the #1 AE overall and then got promoted into Leadership. - Numerous AEs came in with little if any experience and have 2X-4X'd their best W2s. TL,DR - Seeing AEs seize their moment is awesome. Grateful to Andrew Stolz for the trust and David Chambless for opening the door. 🙏 The last 3 years have been a ride!
