LSE Visiting Professor in Practice, leading a research and engagement project on mobilising private sector capital for public policy priorities.
My new report, published today, from the LSE’s Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change & the Environment shows how government could unlock billions in private capital to meet public policy priorities in housing, net zero, education and more. ‘Investing in our future: Practical solutions for the UK government to mobilise private capital for economic, environmental and social policy priorities’ details: - How ‘blended finance’ enables every £1 of taxpayer’s money to crowd in far greater multiples of private capital to achieve better outcomes in housing, education, climate action and more. - Tried and tested case studies showing how, through collaboration and co-design, governments, multilateral organisations and philanthropists are already working with private investors for public good. - Six regulatory and policy enablers that could radically scale up deployment of blended finance in the UK, and mobilise at least £50 billion in private investment over five to 10 years. Drawing on extensive discussion with policymakers, regulators, social investors and financial services players, this report presents a route-map for directing private capital towards a sustainable, prosperous and inclusive future. #blendedfinance #netzero

A historic day for the UK for sure. People have voted for change and the new The Labour Party government has the mandate to create a Good Domestic Economy. We’re pleased that our #placebased #impactinvesting (PBII) thinking is included in their vision for ‘national renewal’, but now the work really starts. #PBII as a paradigm for rethinking and redoing investment as a driver of change should be central to how the new government goes about rebuilding the economy and communities. Read our latest blog by Mark Hepworth on four big ideas we can get moving with immediately: https://lnkd.in/epydUN3t

As we look to the future whoever forms the next Government faces a tough economic environment and difficult choices. Great report by Sarah Gordon on how to unlock billions in private capital to deliver on growth, housing, education and net zero. Add this to the $13 trillion governments around the world spend per year on public procurement alone and you have all the levers you need to deliver resilient and sustainable public services and economic growth.

Head of Engagement & Communications | Building communities for change through impactful storytelling
Really great to see Sarah Gordon's - Visiting Professor in Practice at the The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) - new report on how government could unlock billions in private capital to meet public policy priorities in housing, net zero, education and more. To put it in the words of the Impact Investing Institute's CEO Kieron Boyle: “Governments face a significant challenge. There are huge environmental and social issues that need addressing and only limited resources to do so. But this challenge also presents an opportunity – to reimagine how to align public and private capital in support of a more sustainable and inclusive economy. As this excellent and timely report from Sarah Gordon and the Grantham Research Institute shows, blended finance initiatives can be a key part of the answer. Done well, they mobilise the capital needed to create more jobs, better health, increased housing and cleaner energy. The key ingredient now is the political ambition to make this potential real.” #blendedfinance #netzero #impactinvesting
