🎓 The largest public university system endowment in the US will prioritize value-creation strategies like direct and co-investments in its five-year strategic plan, aligning itself with some of the country’s largest and most sophisticated #allocators as they devise strategies to mirror the Canada model. The University of Texas/Texas A&M Investment Management Company (UTIMCO), which oversees the collective $74.6 billion in assets under management for the university systems, wants to increase its AUM by about $20 billion by 2029, according to the #investment staff’s new 5-year plan, presented in June. The group plans to achieve this by enhancing the value of its capital through strategies including GP stakes, secondaries, and direct and co-investments. Recommendation 25(c) ❤️ "The Australian Government establish a new Solving Australian Challenges Strategic Fund to reward universities which can demonstrate effective use and development of their research and innovation capacity in working with and for governments, industry and communities to address major challenges. The allocation of this fund should use a light-touch portfolio assessment and have regard to each university’s mission. Universities with exceptional performance should be rewarded at a higher level than others." https://lnkd.in/g-tBXPvb

Insightful piece in South China Morning Post SCMP featuring Q Investment Partners and highlighting the strong demand for UK PBSA amongst Asian investors. Read the full feature below. #SCMP #QIP #studenthousing #UKPBSA #privateequity #realestate #investment
In yesterday's South China Morning Post SCMP feature, the booming demand for UK student housing takes the spotlight. A recent CBRE report reveals a deepening shortage of 350,000 beds, reflecting a 45% increase in London alone compared to five years ago, resulting in a scarcity of 106,000 beds. Asian investors, including Singapore’s GIC, CDL, and QIP, are capitalising on this opportunity, as the burgeoning university populations are reinforcing a sustained need for such housing, making it a strategic investment choice. Peter Young, CEO Q Investment Partners added, Asian investors are “taking centre stage” in shaping the future of the market. “As these investors seek opportunities that offer both solid returns and stability, UK PBSA [purpose-built student accommodation] has emerged as a stand-out choice.” QIP’s UK portfolio includes eight student-accommodation assets with around 1,700 beds, strategically located in prime tier-1 cities. Of these 1,000 operational and the rest in development. Demand is “robust” and the company is targeting full occupancy for the start of the coming academic year. https://lnkd.in/gv_-gyGd #SCMP #QIP #UK #PBSA #studentaccommodation #alternativeinvestments #realestate #privateequity
