Hey Everyone! I'm seeing a few reactions on my comment to Abe's post. The comment I made was "... I added an anonymous MSForms survey link on my signature block where individuals (inside and outside the organization) can leave me feedback about their interaction with me. I'll also be adding it to meeting invites." I would love to know if you chose to implement this idea for yourself and how that's going. One area I've been pondering about is the aftercare support that may be needed if the feedback received is not so positive for individuals. It's definitely normal to sometimes internalize feedback. How do we allow ourselves to embrace and sit with any difficult/uneasy emotions that may arise and then shift to a growth mindset? #futureofwork #360feedback #growthmindset #selfreflection #selfdiscovery #vulnerability #empathicleadership

Change Management and Change Leadership at Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada

Today marks the one year anniversary of my role as Director, Enterprise Change at Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada / Immigration, Réfugiés et Citoyenneté Canada. This is my first ever Executive role in my career. I'm celebrating by sending a survey to my whole division asking for their feedback on how I'm doing. I drafted an email that I'm sending to the whole team explaining why I'm seeking their feedback and with a link to the survey. I broke the survey down into two parts. The first part part asks them to rate my performance on each of my Executive performance commitments - common commitments for all Executives in the public service - that make up my performance agreement with my boss. The second part asks for feedback on a few general themes like communication and engagement and it also asks open ended questions on how they think I can do better generally. I'm committing to sharing the results of the survey with my boss to help inform his understanding of how I'm doing as well. I'm posting this here in the hopes that it might encourage other leaders to do the same. Feedback is a gift and it helps us grow. And showing people that we value their feedback sends a message that we are all growing and striving to be better. I'd love to hear from others if they've done the same or hear commitments to do so in the future! Oh and to be clear - I'm also going to celebrate with a beverage this evening. 😊 It's been an awesome year full of so many amazing highlights.

Sit and reflect. Then categorize the feedback as either gold, a seedling or garbage. Not all feedback is equal. Some is perfect and immediately able to be put to use; some needs to be watered interpreted and analyzed to grow; and some is just plain garbage and mean spirited.
