As a society, we must recognise the importance of mental health and wellbeing in the workplace. 76% of workers experience symptoms of a mental health condition each year. Yes, you heard right. The construction industry is known for its physical demands, but the mental and emotional tolls can be just as severe. Principal wellbeing matters. As this critical issue continues to get national attention, we’re pleased to see that the changes we’ve been making at Catholic Education Diocese of Wollongong are paying off. In our last engagement survey, we saw a massive 38% increase in the proportion of principals telling us their job has a distinctly positive impact on their wellbeing. There’s still work to be done (6% still feel like their job is not positively impacting their wellbeing) but we’ll keep listening and working shoulder-to-shoulder with our school leaders to make sure their mental health comes first. Gallup research showed that 1 in 5 U.S. workers rate their mental health as fair or poor, resulting in four times more unplanned absences. RUOK Day, Mental health and safety month have been an important part of the wellbeing landscape for nearly 15 years. Its a great time to start vital conversations around mental health. Its just on a month away falling this year on September the 12th. It’s estimated that 3.5 million Australians are experiencing mild to moderate mental health issues. Workplaces and our relationships within those workplaces are a proven driver of our mental well-being. How do enhance these?
