A Technology Horrow Story. You've been working at a successful startup for years, everything is working well. You're building successful software profits are increasing. They're increasing so well that a new CFO is hired. When looking at the outgoings they see a big expenditure for something called #slack, they don't use it, they communicate solely through strongly worded emails. So they decide to decree that all members of staff communicate through email or something called M$ Teams (a suggestion from one of their younger members of staff). Productivity plummets, Engineers leave by the busload. The company fails. 😱😱😱😱😱😱 #rebelastronaut

It’s interesting as we think of innovation in the context of job markets. Most people of my generation were encouraged towards ‘professional’ jobs, like Finance, Accounting, Lawyers, etc. If a teenager asked me 5 years ago what should they do I would have wholeheartedly advised tech development. However, roll forward to 2024 and the Data Scientists are eating the Developers’ breakfasts, as LLMs and no-code/low-code platforms start to democratise tech development. So, it got me thinking, what’s the next wave? Who’s going to arrive in the early 2030’s to displace the Data Scientists? 🤔 ________________________________________ 💭 Agree? Disagree? My story: Breaking into Tech 💙 Three years ago, I had 670+ people on my payroll and I was BORED! Sounds crazy, right? We were generating £1m+ per month in revenue and I couldn’t get myself excited to go to work…🤷🏽♂️ The things which kept me going were, I knew we needed to evolve into new markets and I needed to rediscover my purpose. I’m a thrill seeker at heart, I love to learn and prove to myself that there’s no such thing as “impossible”. So, I set off on a journey, kissed many frogs and fell in love with the start up / scale up tech ecosystem. I was blown away by the number of people risking everything and bootstrapping, living out of their cars in search of a MVP and a little series A cash…to fuel their hopes and dreams. I met 10’s, 100’s of tech founders and entrepreneurs at events in cities across the UK, Europe and the US and extended the conversations to VC’s and other subject matter experts. The narrative rarely changed..an insatiable drive to innovate and grow, paired with a 90% ‘failure within 5yrs’ rate and a fractured system of support.
