We are thrilled to share that Eversheds Sutherland has received a score of 100% on the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s 2023-2024 Corporate Equality Index, the nation’s foremost benchmarking survey and report measuring corporate policies and practices related to LGBTQ+ workplace equality. Eversheds Sutherland joins the ranks of 545 major US businesses that also earned top marks this year. "It is an honor to be consistently recognized for our many efforts in the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index as it is more important than ever for companies to create an environment in which all individuals feel seen, heard, welcome and safe," said Darwin Conner, US Chief Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer. "HRC raised the bar this year as a result of the recent surge in LGBTQ+-focused bills that have been introduced across the United States. Our HR and DEI team did a great job tackling the changes in criteria, so this recognition is particularly meaningful. We believe it to be a true reflection of the work the firm has performed to build a diverse and inclusive environment, not only at the firm, but in the broader industry as well. The work of diversity, equity and inclusion is absolutely imperative when it comes to supporting our people and delivering value to our clients.” #CorporateEqualityIndex #DEI #HRC https://lnkd.in/dvTETaYY

Senior Social Development Specialist/Head of Section-Social | Development and Humanitarian Consultant, Disaster Risk Reduction, Flood Response and Crises Management
Netherlands’ Feminist Foreign Policy Conference highlights need for quality financing via Donor Tracker Key topics on FFPs from the conference included: 1. Prioritize inclusivity: FFPs must involve and co-create policy with the communities they will impact, prioritizing safeguarding rights, peace, and gender equality. Inclusive FFPs should evaluate and address structures of power, including colonialist, racist, and patriarchal approaches to policy both domestically and abroad; 2. Integrate approaches: For FFPs to be truly feminist, countries must use a whole-of-government approach, rather than focusing exclusively on the development envelope. Other ministries, such as defense, diplomacy, trade, immigration, and environment must also incorporate the tenants of FFPs actively in their work; and 3. Support financing: For FFPs to work, women's rights organizations performing critical work in their communities need both increased and improved financing. According to the Association for Women's Rights in Development, just 0.13% of ODA goes to women's rights organizations and movements. It is crucial for donors and FFP advocates to ensure flexible, sustainable financing for gender equity. https://lnkd.in/eM_MtPPj #gender #genderequality #genderequity

✨ Day 8 of the 18-day campaign for the Routledge Handbook on Gender in Tourism 📚 Today's spotlight is on Chapter 8: ‘Gendered Ubuntu: Exploring the Intersection of Ubuntu, Gender Equity and Tourism Development in Africa’ by Ogechi Adeola and Albert Kimbu based in Rwanda and the UK respectively. 🌐 #Ubuntu, an African philosophy which encapsulates the spirit of ‘being with’ and ‘being in’, has hardly been examined within the context of tourism. In this Chapter, the authors explore the intricate interplay of patriarchy and Ubuntu in #African #leadership and tourism, advocating the need to challenge extant patriarchal structures whilst championing #genderequality & #genderequity. The chapter unveils Ubuntu's potential in fostering sustainable and inclusive tourism development by prioritizing community well-being and environmental preservation along with economic growth. The study delves into how Ubuntu contributes to inclusivity, revitalizes traditions, and promotes gender equality/equity in #tourism. By embracing African values, we evidence how Ubuntu can be a catalyst for inclusive tourism that honors individual and collective well-being and community progress. Join the discussion on dismantling patriarchal norms, embracing Ubuntu, and pave the way for socially and environmentally #responsible tourism development in Africa…💬💡 🔗Link to the book: https://lnkd.in/ghf7kpjn Nellie (Magdalena P) Swart, PhD, CMP, Wenjie Cai, Dr Elaine C. Gender Equity Workplace Consultant: I help companies in male dominated industries improve the retention of working mothers in the workplace through parental policies, benefits, pay equity, and leadership development.
Despite the efforts of the Equal Pay Act of 1963, women still earn less money than men while doing the same job. For reference: 💰 In 2002, women earned $.80 for every dollar men earned. 💰 In 2022, women earned $.82 for every dollar men earned. So, over the course of 20 years, we have narrowed the #genderpaygap by 2 cents. Of course, this data also doesn’t account for: 👉🏾 marginalized groups, specifically Black and Hispanic women who see the largest pay disparity in income. 👉🏾 working mothers who experience a pay disparity because of the motherhood penalty. 👉🏾 the fact that the pay gap widens as women age. The fact that there a number of factors that contribute to the gender pay gap means there isn’t a quick solution available to fix it. However, there are strategies that companies can implement to move the needle and consistently narrow the gap. So what can organizations do? I’ll discuss in Part 2. Stay tuned! #genderequity #workingmoms #hr #diversityandinclusion P.S. If you'd like to learn more about gender equity and where your organization is in the journey, take my 2 minute Gender Equity Assessment here:
