Woohoo! We were surprised by the wonderful news, that we, as escape game creators, were extremely delighted about! The title of TERPECA nominee for 2023 was awarded to both new Enigmarium rooms on Trdinova Street 4 in Ljubljana. For us, this serves as a significant affirmation of our approach, as we strive to create ever more thrilling experiences that truly allow you to escape from reality. In the new escape rooms, you can expect a downright cinematic set design, tense dramaturgy, exciting challenges, and a story totally immersed in local history and legends, in fact, that's Enigmarium signature. Given that each nominator, who must have played at least 200 escape games, can only nominate their top 11 games, we are particularly thrilled that both of our newest games have been nominated for the list of the world’s best escape games! The “Werewolf’s Return” and “Submarine: Operation Water Man” are now joining the game “Circus: The Mysterious Case of the Lost Elephant”, which was nominated last year, and the Maribor “Redlight Casino”, which was nominated three times; in 2020, 2021, and 2022. Together, Enigmarium has six nominations, which is actually a huge achievement, considering that relatively few nominators visit Slovenia compared to other metropolises. The winners of the top 100 will be announced by Terpeca on December 16. Unfortunately, Slovenia is not visited by enough nominators to make it all the way to the top. More flight connections from Ljubljana airport would certainly also help our industry … And speaking of travel - if we don’t have many connections to the world, it’s good to know that we have world-class escape rooms at home. We recently played ESPIONAGE - our mobile escape room game - with the events and sales team at three of the fantastic hotels near Heathrow - London Heathrow Marriott Hotel, Sheraton Skyline Hotel and the Delta by Marriott Heathrow Windsor. And what a fantastic team they were! Not only was there serious amounts of competitiveness between the teams, but lots of enthusiasm and energy, as well as bowls and plates of snacks to keep everyone going. This is what Georgia, the Sales Manager had to say on Trip Advisor: "We recently played Escape in 60's mobile Espionage game. WOW, what a great afternoon of fun! Kathryn & Mike set up the game within 20 minutes and it was a great experience and got us all really thinking and working as a team. Community and me Many takeaways are possible from #animeexpo2024. The market is growing, lots of straight line forecasts (you take a ruler out and pick your angle) have the market increasing to over $40B, $50B, etc Latin American market seems underserved but tricky as local players often have a monopoly on the pipes. Chinese players have an increasing larger presence each year (hello bilibili Group ), #manhwa (#webtoon) as well. The Japanese govt is leaning into content in a big way, with JETRO - Japan External Trade Organization ‘s #geekstreet and JAPAN HOUSE Los Angeles presentation of #kawaii. Food is front and center of the Japanese experience and the lines were looonnggg. Promotion of tourism to Japan, (already the #2 most desirable destination) was heavy with both All Nippon Airways and Japan Airlines with a presence. The industry party was a massive smash hit with lines out the door, thank you KADOKAWA Corporation and Anime News Network. However for one, the important takeaway that resonates throughout media and entertainment is “you”. It’s all about you (me). The #fandom works because the fans can participate, the fans can get autographs, ask questions and also take pictures of themselves in cosplay as the characters they love. If lucky they can selfies with the talent. Talent alone is nice but better with “me”. Anime fans are well known as the highest spends per “hobby” in the biz and that was on full force this weekend. Lines wrapping around Bandai Namco Entertainment America Inc. , Kinokuniya USA etc as young fans have literally saved all year for this, to participate in their community. Sadly (or luckily) most of today’s column inches will be dedicated to the Paramount saga (who cares other than people over 50) and not anime expo. 400,000+ (finally a “plus” that means something )turnstiles visits, the highest daily attended event in Tinseltown’s convention center, including the car show!
