By 2030, nearly 60% of the world's poor will reside in countries classified as fragile and conflict-affected situations. The challenges posed by chronic instability, civil wars, the pandemic, and climate disasters demand innovative solutions from all sectors.
I addressed this at the World Bank's Fragility Forum 2024 today in Washington DC. One key takeaway from the discussion is how private sector companies and humanitarian and development actors need to find better ways of working together. The private sector has a crucial role to play in supporting transitions out of fragility. However, challenging investment conditions often limit their ability to contribute effectively. We need innovative approaches, de-risking tools, and partnerships to unlock the full potential of private sector investments in these contexts.
Furthermore, there is a need to shift mindsets towards investing in fragile and conflict-prone areas. Humanitarian actors must be involved sooner and collaborate around peace investments. Strengthening incentives, structures, and capacities for actually building sustainable peace.
At Danish Refugee Council / Dansk Flygtningehjælp, we prioritize conflict sensitivity and analysis in all our interventions. Our approach is bottom-up and inclusive, ensuring that our peacebuilding activities are tailored to the specific needs of each context.
Let's continue working together to build a more resilient and peaceful future for all. #FragilityForum2024 #Peacebuilding #Resilience #PrivateSectorEngagement.
