Once these ideas sunk in, my nonprofit team improved. "People thrive if their needs are met" 💡 Rather than trying to motivate, inspire, engage, or coerce employees, go straight to the roots and focus on meeting basic work needs. A person who has their needs met does not need much external push to be great at work. "I have to teach myself this since my early work bosses were bad role models." 💡 I didn't have a single good boss till I was already in leadership myself. If I was going to create a better team, I needed to intentionally adopt a new approach. The power of role modeling keeps the cycle of bad leadership intact. "People are messy and need time/space/support to find stability." 💡 All of us have baggage. As a leader, you have to be willing to meet people where they are at. Don't write people off as "bad employees" when issues come up. Learn to lean in, be curious, engage, and strive to understand the person better. Good work with an individual is the foundation for a strong collective team. Do you feel like the only one pushing for changes like this?
