We have agreed a national contract to implement body worn video for frontline officers and staff across Scotland over the next three years. Motorola Solutions UK was successful in securing the £13.3m contract and work has already started to design, build and implement this new capability. The contract includes the purchase of 10,500, Home Office-approved VB400 cameras and supporting back-office systems. The equipment can help to de-escalate incidents, improve public trust in policing, reduce complaints, support officer and staff safety and bring wider benefits to the criminal justice system. Excellent protects cops from public criminals and public from criminal cops. The big risk to the police Scotland is now the Scottish Government is sneaking the removal of corroboration through the back door . Solo police patrols will now be a practice putting front line officers at risk of harm , where dual policing patrols and response has more impact in confidence and control.

This is the culmination of a long journey and a significant milestone for Police Scotland and Motorola. The positive impact this will have on frontline policing and public engagement has to be welcomed.

What I don’t understand is why it had taken so long to get to this point. Grampian had body worn cameras pre amalgamation and they are still in use. Why the need for so much consultation and faffing around. Also axion make ones that link to taser and auto activate any within an 8 meter radius when a taser is activated. Why not go with them instead.

It’s about time that all police officers should be issued with the essential resources to protect the public, and forward criminal cases more quickly with having the necessary evidence to prosecute someone for an offence that they’ve committed. As to why this will help the Procuator Fiscal, and Sherriff make a decision, and justify what sentence the person should be subject to, and it also means that victims will have a fair chance of having justice being served to them.

Great news Gregor, be good to see Motorola introducing another great bit of kit and I'm guessing it integrates with Pronto. I'll be in contact as I need cameras for some of the specialist dogs and it would be great to see if Motorola has a solution. Good luck with the roll out 👍
