Seed Grant Funding OPEN 👏 We are excited to announce the launch of our Seed Grant funding, which is now an online application. We are offering grants of up to £2,000 to support climate action projects in Moray. We have £27,500 available, with £20,000 specifically allocated for nature restoration in partnership with the Moray Council as part of the Scottish Government’s Nature Restoration Fund. 🐞This funding aims to protect and restore Scotland’s biodiversity on land and sea. https://lnkd.in/eKMEdftC Moray CAN Funding - Applications Open 8 July Funding details: - A total of £7,500 for seed grants available in this round - An additional £20,000 specifically for nature projects - Grants available are up to £200 for individuals and up to £2000 for constituted groups and organisations Applications will close 2nd sept. "The task that lies ahead for most companies is to understand the direct impact of their processes and presence on natural environments, as well as the indirect impact and dependency of their supply chains and their products once released into the market. A good place for companies to start is to map the locations and landscapes where their company has nature dependencies and impacts and start to ask the questions: what were those locations like before? What needs to be done to regenerate or protect them?" As we lean into a nature-positive future and what that means, we need to engage with Indigenous Peoples & Local Communities (IP&LCs) to answer these questions. They are the best positioned to steward nature and receive the financial flows necessary to do what they have been doing for millennia: regenerate and protect nature. At The Nature Conservancy in Colorado, we are dedicated to fostering and celebrating a culture of active learning. In 2021, TNC Colorado launched the Catalyst Fund to provide our staff the opportunity to explore innovative ideas that accelerate solutions to the dual crises of biodiversity loss and climate change. The Catalyst Fund spotlights the potential of conservation technology, the creative people we have here at The Nature Conservancy, and the importance of innovation. In TNC Colorado's Catalyst Fund Impact Report, you'll find stories and lessons learned from the first six Catalyst Fund projects that launched in 2021. Through these first projects, we’ve already seen the power and impact that a small investment can make. “We have been shaped by nature, we are part of it, we have nature to thank for everything we have, yet we have forgotten the importance and value of the natural world, we are now destroying it at an unprecedented rate.” Recommending an inspirational, new institutional video of NATURAL STATE, with whom I had the honor and privilege to reconnect this week in #Kenya’s Great Rift Valley. NATURAL STATE is a strategic partner of Good Energies Foundation in #Africa, dedicated to catalyzing large-scale restoration efforts globally. Through innovative impact monitoring techniques, it is revolutionizing the way #restoration projects are evaluated and funded. An added value is that it believes - and acts - in supporting local leaders and communities, empowering them to take ownership of restoration projects and ensuring their success. It is working with The Lewa Wildlife Conservancy and the Ngare Ndare Forest Reserve, part of the Mount Kenya World Heritage Site, among other areas, to capture and store #carbon through assisted natural #regeneration, #tree planting and grazing management. This timely initiative will provide habitat for endangered species, improve local livelihoods, generate revenue for local communities and combat #desertification. Good Energies Foundation is supporting the development of a state-of-the-art restoration impact monitoring dashboard. This will be used by donors, investors and auditors to assess the #carbon, #biodiversity and development gains of restoration and #conservation projects. Some pilots are bottom-up, qualitative and community-based; while others are more top-down, quantitative and technology-driven, using artifical intelligence. Insights from both much needed approaches merge into a compelling dashboard. No doubt that #venturephilanthropy has a critical role to play to help finetune the rules of the game for high-integrity, high-quality nature-based carbon markets, most importantly to avoid greenwashing and negative impacts on local communities. Often, when we consider humanity’s impact on the environment, we picture extraction and contamination. This perspective, however, negates the positive impact of humans who live in harmony with their local environment by protecting and promoting biodiversity. So what happens when these ecosystem stewards are forced to leave? What fills their vacuum? This piece, co-written with the brilliant Alexia Gardner for NACLA, explores the environmental consequences of Colombia’s crisis of conflict-driven displacement. 

A £250k boost for nature recovery 🌱 Projects for Nature is an online platform developed through a public/private partnership involving the Council for Sustainable Business, Accenture, Crowdfunder UK, Wildlife and Countryside Link, Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Environment Agency and Natural England. Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) is a founding business partner of Projects for Nature and the first utility company to support the pioneering initiative, which accelerates nature recovery by connecting businesses with screened nature restoration projects. Supporting two projects, SSEN’s commitment of £250k will enable Heal Rewilding in Somerset to install deer fencing which will protect returning saplings, scrub plants and native flora. 🌿 The funding will also help the Freshwater Habitats Trust to support wetland species and climate resilience by rewetting vulnerable alkaline fen in Oxfordshire. 💧 In a new blog, Chairperson for Projects for Nature, Justin Francis, explains the important impact this funding will have on nature recovery, supporting England’s growing Nature Recovery Network. The Land Portal Foundation is proud to host the historic pledge to support Indigenous Peoples and local communities by the Forest Tenure Funders Group! 🌱🌍 A coalition of 22 bilateral and philanthropic donors committed to invest $1.7 billion between 2021-2025 to advance forest tenure rights for Indigenous Peoples and local communities in tropical forest countries. 🌳 The #IPLCForestTenurePledge aims to mobilize greater and more effective donor support for forest communities, recognizing their critical role in protecting forests, mitigating climate change, preserving biodiversity, and promoting sustainable development. 🌿 Approximately 1.6 billion people rely on forest and land resources for their livelihoods, with 36% of intact forests located within Indigenous lands. Yet, these communities receive less than 1% of climate funding aimed at reducing deforestation.
