However, carbon credits as a mechanism for reaching these goals have come under fire, largely due to uncertainty in their ability to deliver on stated promises. Given the convoluted and unpredictable nature of the market for corporate purchasing of carbon credits, creating an approach that aligns with standards and principles from existing frameworks to set a robust minimum standard made sense.
