Last Friday, I had the extraordinary privilege of attending the Women of Excellence Award Dinner—an evening brimming with celebration, inspiration, and empowerment. Surrounded by women from diverse fields, the event was a powerful reminder of the progress we've made in breaking down barriers that once constrained women from thriving in traditionally male-dominated roles. Fields like technology, finance, corporate leadership and even politics have historically posed challenges for women forging their paths. However, the Women of Excellence Awards underscored that these barriers are not just being challenged but actively dismantled with every achievement and accolade. As a woman deeply embedded in the tech industry, this event held profound personal significance. I've witnessed firsthand the transformation within my own field. As a leader, I'm committed to not only advancing my career but also uplifting others. This commitment translates into mentorship initiatives, advocating for equal opportunities, and cultivating inclusive environments where every voice is valued. To me, empowerment means fostering environments where women can authentically thrive—where their skills and contributions are recognized and rewarded on equal footing. It means confronting stereotypes, championing diversity, and actively pursuing gender parity in leadership roles. These principles were not just discussed at the Women of Excellence Award Dinner; they were embodied by every honoree, speaker, and participant. The recognition bestowed upon these remarkable women was more than individual achievement; it symbolized a collective triumph for women everywhere. It signifies progress towards a future where talent and merit transcend gender biases, enabling the next generation of women leaders to ascend without limitation. Events like the Women of Excellence Award Dinner serve as potent catalysts for change. They underscore the vital importance of representation and the profound impact of challenging societal norms. This International Women's Day, I want to express my heartfelt appreciation to all the remarkable women in my circle, as well as those who extend it, and those who aspire to join it. I see you. Your tireless dedication and selflessness in supporting others do not go unnoticed. Amidst the endless responsibilities you gracefully manage, it's easy to lose sight of your own needs and passions. Yet, it's essential to carve out moments for self-renewal and rediscover what brings YOU joy. While the journey of being a woman often in service of others can feel isolating at times, remember that you are not alone. Together, we find strength in our independence as well as in the connections we share with like-minded women - our tribe. My original plan for today was to host a women’s leadership event. However, due to time constraints and my own juggling of many commitments, I found myself heading in a different direction. Rather than letting the day pass by without acknowledgment, I chose to take a simpler approach. I chose to acknowledge this day by encouraging women to reflect on what truly ignites our spirits. As we celebrate the strength, grace and unwavering spirit of women globally, I invite you to reflect on the following questions (feel free to share your key insights but don't feel obligated to): 1) What advice would you give to your younger self? 2) How do you define success and fulfillment? 3) What challenges have shaped who you are today? 4) Who inspires you, and why? 5) How do you prioritize self-care? 6) What does empowerment mean to you? 7) How can we support each other? 8) What accomplishments are you proud of? 9) How do you navigate societal expectations? 10) What are your dreams and aspirations? 11) Finally, what’s one thing you need to voice or express about yourself this International Women’s Day? I trust this post fosters a journey of self-discovery and peer-to-peer learning, as we share our knowledge and insights to empower and uplift one another. Check out this great read by Oriana Branon (Camacho). I totally agree on this point and not surprising that the main message is still so true: too many companies doing the ✅ the 📦 on Identity Months (Women, Hispanic, Pride). And now with the DEI backlash, platitudes and backward progress is spreading, the relevance is even more important. All of this shows the importance of real substance and leadership. It'll be interesting over this next year and especially leading up to the election, how much spine the business sector shows and how much willingness to go beyond platitudes.....????
