With ADB’s assistance, #Mongolia developed a tool to help policymakers address the interlinkages among the economic, social, and environmental dimensions of the #SDGs in 2019. Is it not ironical that countries in the international system fight for their interests, yet the Sustainable Development Goals were adopted for the good of all countries? The Sustainable Development Goals represent a framework for international cooperation that acknowledged the interconnectedness of global challenges and the shared responsibility of all countries to work towards a more sustainable and equitable world. The adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) reflects a complex interplay of national interests and global cooperation. While countries often prioritize their individual interests in international relations, the adoption of the SDGs represents a recognition that many global challenges, such as poverty, inequality, and environmental degradation, cannot be effectively addressed by any single country acting alone. Instead, the SDGs reflect a shared understanding that the well-being of all countries is interconnected and that addressing global challenges is in the collective interest of the international community. This recognition is underscored by the fact that many global issues transcend national borders. Thus, the adoption of the SDGs can be seen as a response to the realization that promoting sustainable development and addressing global challenges ultimately serves the long-term interests of all countries, even if individual national interests may sometimes appear to be in conflict. #historywithromanusgift

2024 Latin America and the Caribbean Regional Forum on Sustainable Development April 15-19, 2024 The 2024 Latin America and the Caribbean Regional Forum on Sustainable Development (RFSD) will take place ahead of the 2024 High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF). The annual intergovernmental forum aims to assess progress and exchange knowledge, best practices, and policy solutions to support the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, in line with regional priorities. Organized by the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), the Forum will provide the space for an in-depth review of the Goals to be reviewed by the HLPF in 2024: SDG 1 (no poverty); SDG 2 (zero hunger); SDG 13 (climate action); SDG 16 (peace, justice and strong institutions); and SDG 17 (partnership for the Goals). The Forum will also support presentation of voluntary national reviews (VNRs) at the 2024 HLPF. The RFSD report and Chair’s summary will be submitted to the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and conveyed to the HLPF.
