I attended a Hunt Scanlon Ventures event a couple of years ago at the IOD about Talent Acquisition in Private Equity. The great and the good from several large funds stood up and lectured how to bring people on board by efficient recruitment processes and making candidates feel loved.
It made me inwardly chuckle as I have worked with these same funds, know their overworked HR teams and have suffered terrible recruitment experiences from these very funds.
PE can sometimes be “Do as we say, not as we do!”
Every now and then though, a recruitment process is done extremely well.
Over this summer, an exceptional candidate having to make a huge decision was won over by the CPO spending more time engaging personally with the candidate, and even more significantly, by the candidates potential line manager crossing town in the middle of their busy day, in order to have a coffee and talk things through.
This is an example of how a personal approach, outside standard recruitment procedure can make all the difference.
When HR goes the extra mile, it makes me, their recruitment partner want to go the extra mile as well.
