How do we make a bigger impact? By supporting organizations’ success. Through the improvement of operational, programmatic, and financial capacities, nonprofit organizations can enhance their ability to manage funding, track data, build a skilled workforce, and ultimately make a greater impact on addressing climate change. Strategic Program 10: Community-Based Organization (CBO) Capacity Building Program (SP 10) was unanimously approved by Portland City Council today, Thursday, June 20. SP 10 will offer a multi-year cohort program for CBOs that includes training, technical assistance, consultation, operational funding, staff support, and more. The program equips organizations with resources and support to help them fulfill their mission and enable us to achieve ours. With 16 strategic programs and over $180 million in Community Responsive Grants in the Climate Investment Plan, we’re moving toward a more climate-resilient Portland. This is what #climate leadership looks like: "Climate justice becomes an all-city, all-bureau agenda. That’s the future of city governance: a focusing of purpose across all bureaus. Holding big businesses accountable for their #carbon footprint and then reinvesting that money back into impacted communities to repair harm is an incredible return on investment. This is how you rethink city leadership to fit the times." This is noteworthy and a terrific step for getting the technical advice and expertise cities need to access in federal funding. Bloomberg Philanthropies has established a three-year initiative to help 25 U.S. cities access more than $400 billion in federal funds to build greener, more energy efficient communities. a prime example of how the private sector can step up to bridge gaps that are stopping infrastructure repair, replacement and new development. The US needs more programs like this or a better federal government grant distribution program.

1 in 5 Americans are Latino. We are heavily represented in parts of the country that are deeply affected by climate change and degradation—living in the states most riddled by drought, floods, unusually high temperatures, and fires such as California, Texas, and Florida. Our neighborhoods are often adjacent to high pollution emissions. This is why it is so important that the EPA has invested in in the Justice Climate Fund (JCF) the coalition representing the greatest number of #CDFIs led by and in service to communities of color. National Association for Latino Community Asset Builders is a proud and unwavering founding member of JCF. We represent over 60 Latino CDFIs in our membership and the communities they serve nationwide. This program will ultimately help countless Latino families and entrepreneurs. We are humbled to be at the helm of this critical opportunity. This award is a starting point for large-scale federal funding opportunities to include and fund minority-led entities. But there is still more work to be done to achieve true and meaningful inclusion. P’alante! 🍃 https://lnkd.in/e39GNhJH

The Biden Administration & US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) have announced historic investments in clean energy and climate solutions across sectors, a critical step toward ensuring communities have access to the capital needed to participate in and benefit from a cleaner, more sustainable economy. We are grateful for the leaders at financial institutions, CDFIs, and non-profit coalitions who are committed to ensuring that these investments reach the communities impacted first and worst by the climate crisis and who have so far been left out of the transition to a green economy. PCV will remain focused on ensuring that the historically redlined and Justice40 communities we serve can access this historic investment. Through affordable working capital and advising, we're here to support small businesses across America building a cleaner, healthier future. https://lnkd.in/e7MtgAFt

Congratulations to our partners Opportunity Finance Network, Inclusiv, Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), SELF (Solar and Energy Loan Fund), National Association for Latino Community Asset Builders, Prosperity Now, members of the Justice Climate Fund, and all the grant recipients of the monumental GGRF announced today by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency! This moment is not only a step into the right direction of mitigating climate change and economic justice towards achieving a green economy— but to also lower energy costs, enhance public health, and promote workforce development in LMI communities. Now, the work turns to HOW we get these funds to reach the members of our community to create equitable access and benefit from such a pivotal moment in our nation’s history. Huge news! The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) today announced its selection of groups to administer $20B in funding for climate solutions through the Inflation Reduction Act, much of which will be directed toward low-income and disadvantaged communities. Congratulations to our grantee partners who, individually and as part of coalitions, were awarded a total of nearly $8B: African American Alliance of CDFI CEOs, National Bankers Association, Inclusiv, Clean Energy Fund of Texas, Inc, NC Clean Energy Fund, Finance New Orleans, Freedmen Green Bank & Trust Through early grant funding over the past several years, the Hive Fund has helped seed and grow equitable green lending and other finance organizations that serve communities of color and low-income communities across the region, and supported them as they prepared for this opportunity. These groups have been organizing, training, and planning and are ready to finance projects that provide tangible benefits, from renewable energy and energy efficiency upgrades that lower energy bills and build community wealth, to home weatherization and solar and battery infrastructure that make communities more resilient. As these complex programs roll out, we will continue to support the awardees in working together to weave a tapestry of collaboration that centers Black, Brown, Indigenous, and low-income communities that have historically been afterthoughts. https://lnkd.in/e7MtgAFt

It’s a big day for #ClimateJustice.⚡ The IRA’s Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund is providing much-needed resources to vulnerable communities & delivering investments in clean energy and climate solutions. Today’s US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announcement of #GGRF awardees is a key step in Biden's plan to #ActOnClimate. Congratulations to our partners... 🎉 Climate United and Coalition for Green Capital, recipients of the $14 Billion National Clean Investment Fund (NCIF) 🎉 Inclusiv, Justice Climate Fund and Opportunity Finance Network, recipients of the $6 Billion Clean Communities Investment Accelerator (CCIA) For the past decade, RE-volv has provided over 70 community-serving nonprofits across 18 states with solar financing. From affordable housing to food justice to youth education, these nonprofits are taking bold action and offering community resources to address a diverse range of social and environmental issues in historically under-resourced communities. Through this work, we’ve seen progress toward a just energy transition through solar education and nonprofits reinvesting solar savings into the community. Over 70% of funds will be invested in communities impacted by environmental injustice. We’re thrilled to see more funds being channeled into these communities as we collectively work toward a just, clean energy future. Learn more here. ➡ https://bit.ly/43KiOc2

At NBI, we advocate for a built environment that equitably delivers community benefits and climate solutions. Please make a difference on #GivingTuesday by donating to fund our work. Your donation helps transform the building industry and support communities combatting climate change. Learn more about the impact of our work this past year to advance building codes and embodied carbon, diversity in the building industry, and energy efficient product innovation. Building Codes and Embodied Carbon: Building products generate 15% of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions. NBI provided crucial technical guidance and code language to the newly passed California Building Standards Code (CALGreen), which is the first state-wide code that will reduce embodied carbon. It applies to California’s new construction and major renovations over 100,000 sq ft, and provides three ways to address building reuse, building life cycle analysis (LCA), or a prescriptive option for specific products. Diversity in the Building Industry: The buildings industry needs to become more diverse and support career success for young professionals of color. To do our part, NBI created Next Gen, which provides forty college students every year with one-on-one mentorship, networking and peer support, education on decarbonization and net zero buildings, and the opportunity to attend our national Getting to Zero Forum. Energy Efficient Product Innovation: Through our Advanced Water Heating Initiative, NBI is leading a coordinated effort to accelerate growth of a new class of heat pump water heaters (HPWHs), the 120V plug-in model. NBI worked to break down barriers keeping it from the market, including leading the first field validation of 120V HPWHs. Our research and expertise are accelerating the rollout of the technology; Plug-in HPWHs are more widely available and promise to be a critical tool in building decarbonization. #GivingTuesday #Nonprofit #ClimateChange #ClimateAction #CALGreen #EnergyEfficiency #ClimateSolutions
