This week I had the privilege of participating in TPM24 in Long Beach, California, where I had the opportunity to discuss key issues shaping the maritime industry. During a one-on-one discussion with Peter Tirschwell on Monday morning, we delved into various topics such as the Red Sea situation, Gemini Cooperation and our efforts to accelerate decarbonisation:
- The recent attacks on shipping in the Red Sea pose serious challenges to our industry and remind us of the volatile environment in which we operate. At Hapag-Lloyd, the safety of our crews and vessels as well as the reliable delivery of our customers' cargo remain our highest priority. Consequently, we continue to avoid the Red Sea passage until the situation has stabilised – even if that means some transit times are a bit longer.
- Our recently announced Gemini Cooperation raised a lot of interest, especially regarding our ambitious goals such as significantly improving reliability and implementing a targeted hub-and-spoke model. We are committed to showing the viability of this model and believe that our collaboration with A.P. Moller - Maersk will enable us to enhance efficiency and schedule reliability.
- On decarbonisation we are committed to accelerate our efforts and that means we have to make tangible steps forward every year.
From Sunday to Tuesday, I also had the opportunity to meet with many customers and vendors and we exchanged views on upcoming negotiations, Gemini Cooperation, our Dry Container Monitoring, the Red Sea situation and decarbonisation, amongst others. We had intensive talks on innovation – and we came away very energised to develop even closer and deeper relationships with our customers and partners.
As we all know, navigating the ever-changing waters of global trade is full of challenges, but at Hapag-Lloyd we are committed to meeting them head-on and ensuring the seamless flow of goods worldwide.
I thank the organisers of TPM24 for the opportunity to share insights and engage with industry peers.
I am looking forward to next year's edition!
