Will you have a student at home this summer? Are you already trying to prevent them from imprinting their body groove into the couch? Well, we’re here to help because we’re on the lookout for folks to join our squad of seasonal superheroes! It may look like a summer job, sure, but it’s so much more than that. It’s a chance to shape lives, make lasting memories, and you know, earn some very important bucks for the old chain wallet (kids still use those, right?) for that ever-desirable freedom. So, what have we got? 🤿 Dive into the lifeguard life and make some waves as aquatic instructors. 🏐 Become the ultimate recreation and culture ambassador – playtime has never been this epic! 🏅 Turn summer into a blockbuster hit as camp leaders and programmers. 🚣♀️ Navigate the waters as a waterway events attendant – a captain’s hat is optional but highly encouraged. 🤾♂️ Slam dunk into the world of sports as our sports camp leaders! And that's just the beginning! Your kids can discover their perfect job fit in #WellandON this summer. Oh, and did we mention they’ll get their first taste of contributing to a pension? That’s right, the fun continues off the courts and camps, and begs the question, “why is there another deduction on my cheque?”. It’s never too early to start planning for the future. Right? Right? Bueller? So, encourage those you know looking for seasonal employment to apply now. Don't miss out – check out the awesome opportunities at https://lnkd.in/gNd9Cg8s.

I'm going to keep preaching this Collaboration over competition every time, no matter the profession But especially in such important, life changing, politically charged areas like #reentry, #criminaljusticereform and #socialjustice I may like tacos better from one place and burritos better from another...it doesn't mean I'm only ever going to pick one of the places to support 🌮 Sometimes in reentry I hear "only those with lived experience should be doing it" and others preach "only college trained professionals should be going inside" spoiler alert...they can both be the same people We do better making real change with more amplified, diverse voices working together And reentry is not a one size fits all concept...people may prefer to learn and work with multiple providers at the same or different time So here I am shouting out another reentry guru that is in my hometown...#linkedinconnections meet my friend Terry johnson he is just getting going on LinkedIn and can use some support (just don't go selling him services to optimize his page as I will help him with that soon) This world needs more people hyping each other 🌎 And April is Second Chance Month so it makes it even better we were able to meet yesterday on the first day of the special month So three questions for you Who do you want to hype today...tag them in a comment below Do you prefer tacos or burritos (don't make me make an official poll on this) And have you connected with Terry yet? #reentrymatters #restorativejustice #secondchance #corrections

I love a good dinner table conversation... Lately, my career conversations around our dinner table with two kids under 4 have been something like this: "What did you do at daycare today?' "Painting, dancing, drawing, sleeping and playing with the chickens" "I also drew a turtle" So Arrive & Thrive have developed this 'dinner menu' for career conversation in a bid to help families break the ice on careers. This is for families who are a little bit further down the line than my own family, ideally, young people aged between 12-18. The way it works is that both the parent/guardian/adult picks one question from each section of the menu; you can pick your own, or you pick for someone else. You answer each question honestly, then you swap over, and the young person/student completes the same process. Break the ice and learn from each family member what they think about work and careers. 🙌 Download it for Free here or from our website with our other resources. Waffle House, Inc. is the truth. Besides the fact that I love their waffles, grits, and hashbrowns. Waffle House sets the bar with its approach to career paths for students. Here's what they do: - They lay out a well-defined route for students to grow professionally. - They provide 3 months of paid training. - They welcome everyone, even those without prior restaurant experience. - Waffle House clarifies where you can be in 1-2 years, and even 3-5 years. - Talking about stock options and benefits, they’re offering more than just a paycheck. I mean, this is what support looks like! It's not just about giving a job; it's about nurturing a career and future. So, here's a shoutout to Waffle House for their commitment to student careers. And if I come across anyone interested in these opportunities, you bet I'll be pointing them your way. Thanks, Lora Ivey, for showing how it's done!

WHEN DID YOU KNOW? We were all doing what we do now when we were 10 years old. Kind of… Long before reading resumes, interviewing interns, production prospects, and skilled tradespeople, there was GI Joe. This is what a lobby full of applicants looked like when I was in 4th grade- a red, plastic collector case. Some of the first teams I put together were for backyard rescue missions. Each Joe had a file card with their skill set, personality profile, pay grade, and hobbies. My younger brother and I would read about each action figure and then decide if they were a good fit for the job. A soldier dressed in arctic gear rarely was sent to the desert. However, if they could drive a dune buggy or hack into a Cobra mainframe it was a real plus. Now and then, colleagues and I will chat about when we knew the type of work we wanted to do. Engineers will talk about a remote control car they modified in the 5th grade. I have met a few electricians too, that fixed a toaster during summer break or programmed a garage door opener. It is important that we all look back at when we started down our career path. Reconnecting with what makes our craft satisfying will bring back memories. Many probably started towards the end of elementary school. Be proud of your career and remember where you come from. Job satisfaction is a true blessing. And knowing is half the battle!

“Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.” ~Fred Rogers It has been an interesting career search over the past few months. Very different than others in my career. I have read so many job descriptions and conducted a deeper dive into countless organizations. There is no perfect job description or organization. Ultimately I care about if it’s work that provides me the opportunity to add value to an organization and its people. As a result of my own experience with my career search, I have formed a local Facebook group called Plattsburgh Get Back Up! We just had our first meet-up earlier this morning at a local coffee/tea shop. The goal is to positively engage the people in my local community who are experiencing employment insecurity (about to lose their job/unemployed/underemployed). How can you help? Check in with someone you know who is experiencing employment insecurity. If they happen to be local to Plattsburgh please encourage them to join the Plattsburgh Get Back Up! group. Be a helper!

🌟 It was an AMAZING Day 8 of Session B at Hope Haven's Summer Career Camp! 🌟 👉Our career campers kicked off their morning in the Job Exploration Session with a burst of creativity, making Summer Community Helper Hand Puppets. They picked their favorite community helpers and got busy crafting lifeguards, park rangers, doctors, librarians, and more! The room was buzzing with excitement as they brought their puppets to life, learning about the roles and responsibilities of each helper. 👉As part of their job duties today, they tackled the much-needed but often overlooked skill of laundry tending. They learned the proper way to fold clothes and the importance of keeping their work neat and presentable. It was a hands-on lesson in maintaining professionalism and attention to detail. In Work Readiness, our campers got some great life advice about procrastination from an unexpected source—SpongeBob SquarePants. Through the hilarious episode, they discovered valuable lessons: 🔹Procrastination exists and needs to be managed. 🔹It’s quicker and more satisfying to complete a task than to put it off. 🔹Listening to that little voice urging you to get back to work is crucial. 🔹The longer you delay a task, the more daunting it seems. 🔹Completing tasks brings a great sense of achievement. 👉The day got even more fun and engaging during music therapy with Ms. Emily from Upbeat Music, in partnership with Cathedral Arts Project. Our campers got their rhythm going with their favorite Boomwhackers, creating vibrant and rhythmic tunes that had everyone dancing and laughing. It’s not too late to register your students aged 14-21 with an IEP or 504 Plan for our upcoming sessions. Each session runs for 2 weeks, and a separate Vocational Rehabilitation referral is needed for each one. Click here 👉 https://lnkd.in/dMJ9Eyc to learn more about signing up for Hope Haven's Career Camp! #CareerCamp #HopeHaven #FutureLeaders #SummerFun #CreativeLearning 🌟🎨🎶
