EU Hydrogen Week 2023 concluded last Friday and all the visitors witnessed an intriguing event on such a contemporary subject. 💡 Key take aways from Watermeλon Consulting's participation, : 📌 Ursula von der Leyen keynote speech underpinned the plan and commitment of the 🇪🇺 to establish a dominant role across the hydrogen value chain. 📌 Encouraging news about the planned financial support 💰 is the perfect canvas to draw the details for multiple ambitious projects and improve their long term feasibility. 📌 Long term feasibility of projects is necessary for technology/solution providers to plan the development and production of critical equipment for said projects. 📌 Project developers remain commited to mature their projects, exploring all aspects and and reach FIDs. 📌 More and more start-ups and RTOs rise to provide solutions to existing challenges with novel concepts that will attract investment in the near future. 📌 Each project requires a structured tailored approach and careful study to see if and how (clean) hydrogen fits to its basic characteristics. There is no need, or room, for superficial concepts, wasted effort and resources that generate just noise. European Commission, Hydrogen Europe and Clean Hydrogen Partnership have raised the bar with this year event 👏 👏 👏 ! More than 1,500 executives and investors from the hydrogen industry will come together September 14-15 in London for the “Investing in Green Hydrogen 2023” event. 🌍 Towards a Sustainable Energy Future: Reflections on #Water, #Hydrogen, and #CleanFuels 🏭🏗️🚛🚆🚢✈️💧♻️ In the current context of global #EnergyTransition, it is essential to reflect on the #innovative and #sustainable solutions that can shape our future. The availability of #water, a vital but scarce resource in regions like the #MiddleEast, poses a unique challenge for #EnergyProduction. This situation urges us to seek alternatives that enhance resource #efficiency and #sustainability. #Hydrogen emerges as a promising candidate in this quest, but its potential can only be fully realized when it is produced sustainably (#CleanHydrogen). Here, #technologies based on #ThermoChemical pathways become critically important. These technologies have the power not only to generate hydrogen but also other clean or #SyntheticFuels, ensuring that they are #CarbonNeutral or even #CarbonNegative. This approach addresses not only the need for #CleanEnergy and accessibility but also considers the #unique #limitations and #opportunities of each #region. For example, in areas rich in #natural #resources but limited in #water, developing #CleanFuels through #thermochemical methods can be an optimal solution. In #coastal countries with abundant #water, #Electrolysis could serve as a viable route for production. The same approach applies in regions with abundant #Renewables. Beyond #Hydrogen, it is crucial to explore a variety of #SyntheticFuels that can adapt to different needs and contexts. These #fuels can not only energize areas without access to #ElectricalTransmission networks but also power diffuse energy sources such as use in #HeavyTransport, #MaritimeTransport and #Aviation. Furthermore, these same technologies have the potential to revolutionize the #Recycling and #Recovery of #CriticalMetals, especially from spent #Lithium-ion batteries (#LIB) and #RenewableEnergy components. This supports not only environmental #sustainability but also contributes to the #CircularEconomy, maximizing the value and lifespan of #RawMaterials. On this path towards a #cleaner and #sustainable energy future, it is essential that we consider all available options and work together to develop solutions that are both #innovative and respectful of the #environment and #resource limitations. I hope these reflections inspire constructive dialogue and foster closer #collaboration among all #stakeholders involved in the #Mining and #Energy industry. The European Commission published the long awaited #H2Valleys Roadmap.   The “Repowering the EU with #HydrogenValleys: Commission presents progress towards a European #hydrogeneconomy” takes stock of the efforts which have resulted in getting closer to the goal of having at least 50 Hydrogen Valleys - local industrial or transport clusters where #renewablehydrogen supply feeds local demand - under construction or operational by 2030.   In this Staff Working Document, the Commission: 📄 Expressed support for a ‘Hydrogen Valley Facility’ to help early-stage valleys to mature. The tender for the Facility was launched on 26.06 👉 https://shorturl.at/RKuSR 🌿 Highlighted the new ‘#CleanHydrogen Knowledge Hub’ to provide stakeholders with the information they require. 🔬 Expressed commitment to work closely with Member States and stakeholders to implement the Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA) of the ERA Pilot on #GreenHydrogen. 🏫 Work towards transforming the European #HydrogenAcademy (launched in January 2024) into a European #NetZero Industry Academy as announced in the #NetZeroIndustryAct. 🤝 Intensity #cooperation with the international partners on clean hydrogen deployment and the development of hydrogen markets, through the Clean Hydrogen Mission under Mission Innovation. According to the Mission Innovation Hydrogen Valley Platform there are currently 67 H2 valleys located in the EU, out of 97 valleys globally.
