Today is World Mental Health Day. The theme for 2023, set by the World Foundation of Mental Health, is ‘Mental health is a universal human right’. Mental health is a key theme of our recently published Northamptonshire Hidden Needs Report, which includes sobering facts such as the prevalence of depression across our county being significantly higher than the national average. Local charity The Lowdown does incredible work to tackle this crisis, providing free & confidential support services to those aged 11 - 25 in Northamptonshire. The Lowdown are one of many organisations that feature as impact case studies in the Hidden Needs Report, highlighting the great services already in place for the local community, as well as the most urgent need. Today marks the start of Mental health awareness week 🧠 It goes without saying how important it is to keep yourself mentally healthy at all stages of life and we wanted to give a special mention to a charity who are working wonders to support people of all ages within our society. ‼️Remember, please put your own oxygen mask on before helping others ‼️ We hear this just before we’re about to take off on an adventure.✈️ But, this is something I’ve had to remember to do myself, over recent months.💛 Finding time to look after myself, take a break, process things, talk things through and generally reset.🧘🏻 When your in a position to be able to help others you also need your own support network. 🛟 Having friends, peers and team members you can lean on, trust and rely on is so important for your mental health.🧠 Remember to listen to people and look out for signs that they may need help too. Also, if you don’t feel great, let someone know. Asking for help is not a sign of weakness.💪🏼 If anyone feels they need to talk, vent or get extra support, just ask or let someone know you’re struggling. This May is Mental Health Awareness Month. There are more than a quarter of a million children in England on the waiting list for mental health support, which is shocking. The more we can help to support our children and young people the better - and we must. For care experienced young people accessing mental health support can be even tougher. That's why we are working in partnership with The Mix Charity to place a Mental Health Hub right at the fingertips of care experienced young people, giving them instant help and support.
