Are you involved with a youth-serving organization?  Chances are that many of the children you serve come from trauma-filled backgrounds, and they might not fit the stereotype you have in your mind. Data from SAMHSA’s National Child Traumatic Stress Initiative finds that more than two-thirds of children reported at least one traumatic event by age 16 Without proper training in trauma-informed practices, there's a high risk of inadvertently retraumatizing these children. How does this happen?  Consider the common practice of asking kids to bring in a baby picture. For many foster children, this simple request can evoke painful memories, as they might not have such mementos due to their unique life experiences.
