Today was my first day as Professor of Practice at the University of Cumbria, welcoming some 150 secondary Teacher Training Students to their new and our very exciting world. “If you are a teacher, remember that 50 years from now [in 2074] somebody will mention your name.” Thank you for your support, Dareys Anne and colleagues. My position is about children, their learning and our teaching. It is also about the best we can be, disruption of the status quo, bending the rules, inclusion and equity, accountability to the child as opposed to the system, innovation and creativity, fun and joy. My message? “Salid y disfrutad” – Go out and enjoy, to quote my compatriot the great Johan Cruijff.
What an incredible opportunity for all involved. Have a wonderful time and it is exciting to think that new teachers will come through with a new/more purposeful perspective on what it means to be in the classroom.
Good luck all! Seek out the teachings of no words! ✍️🤔💭💥🚀🌎🎓✨📈👍
Hopefully in 2074 students will not sit like that in a classroom!
Congratulations! I would love to be a student in such a class, at least for a day. Perhaps there will be some online options in the future :)
Your students are so lucky to have you🌹all the best
They are lucky to have you! I always remember you talking about 'children' rather than 'pupils' or 'students' and why that framing is so important. It looks like your are still doing this! PS. Great pic!
You'll be amazing Ger - they're so lucky to have you! Every success and enjoy it indeed!
Well done Prof. Looking forward to connecting again in Doha shortly.
I would LOVE to take a class with you! What a treat! Wishing you a year to “disfrutar”!

1wHow lucky for that cohort to have you guiding and inspiring them - and for the children who will go on to benefit from their values and expertise.
