Don't lie to yourself this week - We applaud every impression made. - We cheer for every lead captured. - We recognize staying on target. - We value simply showing up. VS - We celebrate forging meaningful connections. -We exult in sealing the deal. -We revel in achieving our targets. -We honor completing the task. Yes, “enjoying the journey” has its merits. But don’t let charming phrases excuse unfinished tasks. Here’s the bottom line: You started to finish. Celebrating what’s incomplete is like awarding yourself for just participating. It feels nice momentarily, but remember why you’re here. Finish the task. That’s the real win.

As you've probably seen recently across your LinkedIn, people are openly sharing their failures and successes of their year. Which, honestly, I appreciate and aspire to be as reflective as the many people doing this. As some may know about me, I'm not super open and I find being proud of moments in my life difficult to share as I don't like taking up space. Now, that is something I'm unlearning as why can't we share when we are proud of ourselves, this makes others happy, seeing us happy. And ultimately, it shows confidence that we can observe when we have done well and can pat ourselves on the back for being successful. So... with that, I would like to share some highs of 2023 with you all: 🎉 - In January, I was promoted to Account Manager after being an Account Executive for just over a year and a half. This was something I had been working really hard towards all throughout 2022; so receiving that promotion was so surreal and I was (and still) very thankful for it. ✅ - In March & June, I successfully co-lead client projects that had been in the works for over a year. The satisfaction I received from seeing a year's worth of blood, sweat and tears poured into a project finally going live was very rewarding. 🏆 - In September, I was nominated for the Bright Future Award at the SMP annual awards; this was a massive shock and such an honour to receive a nomination. 📋 -Throughout 2023, I invited clients to our offices & lead in person meetings. Providing summaries, solutions and guidance on their current work. These experiences really pushed me to be more confident and rely on all my experience and knowledge I have gained within the last 2 and a half years. Just re-reading all these moments, feels so surreal and I can say I feel proud of the highs I've achieved this year. I hope with me sharing this, you can be reflective of your year too and be proud of your achievements! 🙂

When I was a performance coach at Hewlett-Packard I could not believe I was getting paid to do the job. Every day was fun and challenging. It wasn’t all easy and I learned a lot while helping others achieve their goals. These are the things I love to do: Learn and teach! It propelled me to be a top performer and earn Tops in Sales and MVP awards without being salesy. Start doing your passion work with this Action Step: What is something you love doing? 👉Name it. 👉Visualize how it feels when you're fully engaged in it. What does it look like? How can you start doing what you love right now? 👉Name it. What did you learn?

I am going to give you a gift. If you are doing this. STOP! If someone tells you that they were recently promoted, and you respond with: "I got promoted last month, and I now have a team and will be reporting to the Vice President" consider yourself a hijacker. Ask yourself,"by telling this person that I got promoted, and not letting the other person tell me their story without interruption, am I doing anything to engender value with this person?" No. You can "touch" the person's statement with "Wow! I got promoted too, but I want to hear all about your promotion. What is your new title? What are your new responsibilities? Will you have any direct reports?" ASK QUESTIONS ABOUT THEM AND THEIR STORY!!! Resist the urge to takeover the conversation by telling them about you. Are you hijacking? What’s made you feel proud this year? It’s a question we often get asked at this time of year and it’s an opportunity to reflect on successes and hopefully extract a bit of value and satisfaction from what we’ve achieved. We’re always told that ‘pride comes before a fall’ and I’ve certainly noticed a tendency (especially prevalent in my Commercial experience) for people to secure a good result and to immediately move onto the next thing or even to downplay something like a contract signature with a statement like “yes, but now we’ve got to deliver it”. Well, yes that’s true and things might well go horribly wrong just after you’ve celebrated the result, but the reality is (and you know this already) that would have happened anyway so you might as well enjoy the win and then at least you can tackle the issue with a bit more emotional capital in the reserves. So what am I proud of? Well, I’m proud of the team. It’s a privilege to lead and the thing I’m most proud of is the culture we have of supporting each other; working together in an environment of mutual trust. We’ve delivered some great outcomes this year. Sometimes that’s a contract signature, but often it’s the smaller wins that don’t always grab the headlines, but make a huge difference. So maybe this year I’ll actually practice what I preach and allow myself to enjoy that for a moment.

Promotion is continuing......

Today is my 50th day of my 75 hard challenge. Here are three things I have learned that I can apply to my business and career: 1. Busy people get shit DONE! The more you have to do the more you value every moment in your day. 2. Freedom of commitment. Once my gf and I made a decision to complete this challenge without any back doors it made decision making process so much easier. We knew what we HAD to do everyday. 3. Don't get to high with the wins and don't get too low with the losses. Easier said than done but it's allowed me to stay consistent everyday. I'll be posting more about what I've learned as I go forward in this challenge!

Awards and recognitions only come when genuine efforts are exerted and these efforts have proven to be effective in meeting the goals. They are validations that one’s work was not in vain, but they should not be the only reason for working well within a one’s capacity. Awards or not, the job of a professional is to perform well and contribute to the goals and aims of his organizations. Achieving targets and working together with a team of like-minded individuals should be a goal one should have. Let the awards and recognitions be the icing on top of the realized efforts. Let them be the motivation, but not the reason for doing a job well. 🥰
