Casting Hope: How Project Healing Waters is Restoring Lives As we navigate the complex terrain of post-service life, veterans often encounter challenges that extend far beyond the battlefield. From grappling with physical injuries to dealing with invisible scars, the journey can feel like an uphill battle. Amidst this, beacons of hope are around in the form of veteran nonprofit organizations. Organizations like Project Healing Waters. In our quest to provide solace and support to those who have served, PHW stands out as a testament to the power of community, nature, and the therapeutic art of fly fishing. Our story is one of resilience, compassion, and unwavering dedication to those who have sacrificed so much for our nation. At the heart of our mission lies our local programs all across the nation, where dedicated volunteers come together to offer veterans a lifeline amidst turbulent waters. Led by individuals who understand the unique challenges veterans face, this program serves as a sanctuary where healing takes flight, one conversation and cast at a time. Walter Shockley, an Assistant Program Lead, encapsulates our mission succinctly: "We aim to work closely with Veterans and educate them on the intricacies of fly fishing. Additionally, we introduce them to the serene and relaxing environment of fishing in small ponds or backwoods streams in the mountains. Through the act of casting a fly and focusing their attention, Veterans can experience relaxation and stress relief." Through close collaboration with other nonprofits and medical facilities like the VA Health Care System, we ensure that each veteran receives tailored support that addresses their unique needs. The impact of PHW on veterans' lives cannot be overstated. As Shockley attests, "Through our program, we have witnessed Veterans with PTSD become more open to their peers and experience increased relaxation as they hear stories from others about their military assignments and encounters throughout their careers." Reflecting on his journey with PHW, one of our participants shares, "Fly fishing is my solace. When I feel myself becoming overwhelmed, when my PTSD flares up, or when stress takes hold, I turn to my fly rods. The act of casting the line helps me realign myself and find a sense of calm." Tomorrow is Veterans Day. We want to say thank you to all Veterans who have dedicated their lives to something bigger than themselves. This quote "Generals lead wars, but battles are won in the trenches." explains why Cajun Navy Ground Force is so effective. We are Generals who lead from the ground and operate from the trenches first. Because of this we understand disaster relief better than most organizations. Just like many military veterans, our teams also suffers at times from the impact of operating from the front lines, the trenches of disaster response. Our mission is Swift Intervention and Sustained Relief and PTSD amongst our team is a reality. We often miss out on what is happening in our homes, families and communities. It is a reality we accept, but that few see or understand. It can strain friendships and personal relationships. We miss out on our favorite College Football teams playing. We have missed the excitement the holidays, our families birthdays and gatherings. Even the peaceful respite of our own beds. But, when we see human suffering from the disabled and the elderly and the Baby Boomers on a scale that cannot be fathomed unless you are here in the trenches, and we know we have the ability to help we cannot turn away. And we are grateful to be called to do this. In the bigger picture, we seek to improve the vicious crisis for the most vulnerable created by natural disasters. We're working on a project designed to do just that. It's big. We seek to do disasters differently and we're only just beginning. Want a challenge that is bigger than you? You can either support at us financially at Give.GoCajunNavy.org or join the movement on the American front lines of disaster relief at Volunteer.GoCajunNavy.org.

Today we remember the fallen throughout all wars and services, and also remember those who struggled to continue and sadly took their life (30 times more than those killed in combat since 2001). Producer of THE DRUM on ABC also wrote this article, which is part of our call to action following our National screenings. How can we help our fallen heroes who served our country? Thousands hanging on trying to find who they are after military life. We need the system to change. We need to be more proactive for those who have gone through trauma and living with trauma. We need change from the traditional medical model. We need variety including alternative natural therapies and programs that exist in our communities but are not funded by DVA and Defence / Federal government. We need change - change to save lives towards post traumatic growth. Write to our local member. Share on your social media pages. Write a review on good.film/thehealing if you have seen our documentary. Support Horse Aid through your donation to help veterans and first responders to attend this life saving program while it is not funded by the Government. We will remember them. Lest we forget. https://lnkd.in/gEDMySsP #SaveLivesTogether #calltoaction #mentalhealthmatters #posttraumaticstress #posttraumaticgrowth #remembranceday2023

How can we help? A simple question, yet for a #veteran who may be struggling to navigate nuanced challenges whilst transitioning back into civilian life – it can have an enormous impact. We’re all familiar with feeling overwhelmed by change, uncertainty or the pressures of daily life. But imagine if this coincided with adapting to an entirely new way of thinking, living and working? In 2023, we found that 65% of veterans arriving at Walking With The Wounded did not feel confident dealing with life’s challenges. However, after receiving #support from WWTW’s care coordination programme, 85% then felt they had the skills to navigate them. At Walking With The Wounded, we spend time getting to know veterans, encouraging them to open up about the issues impacting their #health, happiness and family life. Our teams are dedicated to understanding their unique experiences via bespoke 1-2-1 support; offering practical tools, guidance and help with managing everything from health issues to relationships to debt. A vital lifeline to veterans in a crisis, our Quick Reaction Fund is a crucial component of this. These funds provide direct and immediate support to veterans and their families with emergency accommodation, food shops, utility bill top ups and much, much more. Last year we supported 768 veterans through our care coordination programme and issued over £80,000 via our Quick Reaction Fund (QRF). Given the tremendous contribution veterans make to their families, communities and country both during and after service, we are proud to help fuel their journey to a future of better health, #wellbeing, and opportunity. Happy Friday, everyone! I wanted to celebrate a special person to kick off the weekend. I pay attention to the soul of a person. How does their spirit move? Why do they do the things they do? What happened to them that they do this? Where does their selflessness come from? Who showed them how to serve others? With every interesting person I meet, I try to answer these questions before I commit myself to trusting them. This is a deviation from my prior way of thinking. I watch their actions. Study their behaviors. I listen to their heart. Sometimes I close my eyes when I’m on the phone with someone so I don’t get distracted from what’s coming from their heart. Their pain points. The humility they lead with. The curiosity they serve with. Why do some people live such selfish and self-centered lives? Why do others give so much of themselves? These are important questions to be curious about when we interact with people, trying to make an impact in the lives of broken people. You see, these people are at risk to be emotionally wounded even more than they are. I’m talking about military personnel and first responders. The tip of the spear, when it comes to safety and security for Americans. Yet, we can be damaged souls as a result of what we put on the line to protect and defend. So, what do you do with a group of people who are highly courageous, eternally selfless and damaged from sacrificing for others? You love on them. Unconditionally and without judgment. That’s what Sara Correll is doing. Many of us know who Gary Sinise is what the Gary Sinise Foundation does for injured veterans. Gary has inspired a movement. I met Sara in 2021 after I left policing. I struggled during my transition. No shame for me. If I lead with shame, how does that help other veterans and first responders like me? It’s about courage and action. Sara has created The Power of Our Story. In an age where we are inundated with information, I ask you to check in on Sara’s page. She’s built something beautiful for the 1% of Americans who have sacrificed so much so that everyone reading this post can live a better life. Maybe you’re a civilian who’s made a lot of money. What does your personal wealth mean to you? Are you able to give back to people who continue to struggle who’ve sacrificed for us all? I am fortunate to be where I am. I made it home from war and endured a long service in my community when I returned. For 21 years I asked, “who needs help now?” But, I’m a lucky one. A very lucky one. Good people are suffering right now. Many need support. This is not the time in American to hoard resources. If you have something to donate, even time or talent, connect with Sara. Sara, thank you for what you’ve built. Your selfless efforts for our nation’s protectors is inspiring and appreciated. 🫡

🐋🐳🦄🦉🦅🐽🎓🪖🪢🪡🇺🇸Accountability in our national and industrial leaders starts with the strongest women and men at the forum. Ladies, I can not even begin how important you all are in enhancing humanities deficiencies buried in our narratives. Today is our last day in defining adverbs that emanate laziness or complacency in our men that lead. Today, we together define our paths forward... in halting further hardships that our honorable military and veteran communities are exposed to these days. " Our distinct model aims to harness over $58B in annually unutilized government grants, redirecting these resources towards not just improving veterans' lives while also extending support to their families. Executive Search - Defence & Intelligence at psd Group, Mental Health First Aider and Military Veteran
What Remembrance means to me. As a military veteran, Remembrance holds a unique and profound significance for me, extending beyond the symbolism of poppies and somber ceremonies. It's a time when veterans come together to remember, reunite, and share a connection forged through shared experiences. Remembrance is not just about honouring the fallen but also about acknowledging the living—the veterans who have faced the challenges of service and carry the weight of those experiences. It serves as a powerful reminder that the bonds formed in the crucible of military life are unbreakable. One of the most compelling aspects of remembrance is the opportunity for veterans to come together and support one another in a way that only those who have walked a similar path can understand. The shared camaraderie, the unspoken understanding, and the mutual respect create a space where we can openly discuss the challenges we've faced and the impact on our mental health. Coming together allows us to break down the stigma surrounding mental health issues, encouraging honest conversations about the struggles many veterans face post-service. It's a reminder that seeking support is a sign of strength, not weakness. As we reflect on our time in service, we should also recognise the importance of reaching out to fellow veterans, checking in on one another, and fostering an environment where mental health is a priority. The shared burden becomes lighter when carried together, and the bonds of friendship forged in service can be a lifeline in times of need. This remembrance weekend, let's not only honour the past but also focus on the well-being of our fellow veterans. Together, through open conversations and mutual support, we can ensure that no one feels alone in their journey beyond the uniform. On Sunday, I'll be travelling to London to share 'a few drinks' with my service brothers. I will unashamedly laugh out loud, dish out and take back the banter, and enjoy the opportunty to be back amongst those who understand me better than anyone else. It will be a tonic. It will recharge my batteries. To my Grandad, a Normandy landings veteran, to Big Bird, Bonny, Stricks, Del and Scouse and all those who are no longer with us - we will remember you. #remembrance #remembranceday #veteran #mentalhealth
