Interestingly, I often get this question from friends, especially outside Atlantic Canada: "What's the tech environment like in Atlantic Canada? Are there opportunities? What startups are thriving? How many incubators are there? Are there investors and investments in tech? What kind of tech careers can flourish?" and several others. While I could have just said, "Google it," I realized I had similar questions when I first stepped into the region almost three years ago. In fact, I still do. My curiosity, plus my research instincts, kicked in. So, I am embarking on an adventure to uncover the tech landscape in the Atlantic Region. Just checked out the Atomico's State of European Tech Report summary and found something cool: Europe is becoming a magnet for international tech talent! Europe is drawing in more tech folks from around the world than it's losing. Even more interesting is that more tech talent is leaving the US to work in Europe than the other way around. It shows how attractive European tech companies have become. Except for Australia, Europe is pulling in more tech talent from every region. Pretty impressive, right? So, cities like Lisbon, Barcelona, Berlin, London, Amsterdam, etc., are quite popular right now, drawing people from all over. Their startup scenes are pretty well-established, but they're also getting crowded, with tough housing markets and just too many people. That's why it's important to look at new places in different countries to help grow smaller ecosystems. This is what we're doing at Startup Wise Guys by running programs in less crowded cities like Bilbao, Malaga, and Cosenza and others. By bringing more programs and founders to these new spots, we're helping to connect big and small cities across Europe, making it a great place for people looking to move around or settle in a new country.
