The Bonneville Power Administration extends government incentives to reduce energy consumption through its Energy Efficiency Incentive program. Incentives are rebates that go back to the project. HMIS vigilantly analyzes data and projects, identifying opportunities for potential site-wide energy savings. Of the $190,679 earned by Hanford contractors in the past two years, over half can be credited to HMIS upgrades to electrical transmission lines and new energy-efficient LED lighting. This translates to 884,902 kilowatt hours saved — enough to power 1,000 homes for a month! What do you do at home to be more energy efficient? 

“Customers depend on reliable electricity, and meeting that need is our number one priority. Winter weather events are a time when generators need to secure supply quickly, have the ability to get it delivered on time, and require sufficient notice to do both. Advance preparations are a critical component to delivering reliability, and we hope these recommendations can drive real, incremental solutions,” said EPSA President and CEO Todd Snitchler.    As part of the Reliability Alliance, EPSA joined with Natural Gas Supply Association and Interstate Natural Gas Association of America to provide nearly a dozen jointly developed recommendations for improvements to gas-electric coordination to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). Today, PECO submitted a request to the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) seeking approval to adjust its energy delivery rates for electric and natural gas to expand the company’s investment in its local electric and natural gas infrastructure and to enhance programs and services for customers. These investments are critical to meet the increasing energy needs of customers, expand services and programs related to energy assistance and electric vehicles (EVs), and to provide the level of service customers have come to expect.      PECO’s requests are subject to review and approval by the PUC. If approved, the newly proposed rates would go into effect on January 1, 2025.     If PECO’s entire electric request is approved, the total monthly bill for a typical large commercial electric customer would increase by about 6%. If the Company’s entire gas request is approved, the total monthly bill for a typical large commercial natural gas customer would increase by about 22.5%. The exact impact to your total monthly bills will depend upon your specific usage and the portion of your monthly bill dedicated to supply/commodity costs.         More information about the filings can be found on peco.com/rates.

It’s very rare that we use Linkedin for any kind of primary research, but on this occasion we’ve made an exception! Despite the ongoing wave of acquisitions that we’re seeing across Europe which are aiming to bring some scale and consolidation to heating installation (the latest one I saw was another from HomeServe in France), the sector remains incredibly fragmented. Even in the case of Germany, where heat pump sales last year were 5x larger than the UK, the biggest installation companies report only very similar numbers to what British Gas has achieved in Britain (around several thousand max). So yes as Klara says – very interested if any of the companies tagged would be happy to share some insights, in the messages or directly with us. In addition to the companies mentioned below, perhaps Greener Energy Group would also make the list.

San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) unveiled four new microgrids featuring advanced remote operation capabilities to help enhance grid reliability and bolster resiliency for the surrounding communities. The four microgrid and energy storage sites, located in the communities of Clairemont, Tierra Santa, Paradise, and Boulevard, will help deal with increasing energy demands in the San Diego region. The ability to remotely operate microgrids offers real-time monitoring, faster response to grid events, more efficient energy storage management and enhanced grid resilience designed to help optimize overall performance, reliability, and sustainability. These systems utilize lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery cells and have advanced safety and fire prevention features. In December 2021, the California Public Utilities Commission gave the approval to SDG&E to move forward with these projects. The four microgrids will operate independently or in tandem with the larger regional grid and offer a combined storage capacity of approximately 39 megawatts (MW) and 180 megawatt-hours (MWh) across four SDG&E substations. Expected 35% to 45% efficiency: I have been working on this design for 18months, or more. Having successfully designed/built/installed a Heat Energy Recovery System for use with domestic oil-fired-central systems (reduces fuel oil consumption by more than a third). I have now completed the design for a Heat Energy Recovery System for use with gas-fired-central-heating systems. Fundamentally the design applicable to gas fired central heating systems has proved to be a very different challenge to that for oil fired systems. The installation is not evasive but represents a fundamental change in how we use and understand central heating systems. [The Heat Energy Recovery Systems for both oil and gas fired systems reduce Carbon and all other harmful emissions by significantly more the 30% and operates requiring no intervention by the user.]
