ARE THE APPELLATE COURTS OUT OF TOUCH WITH THE STATE OF THE LEGAL PROFESSION? The 5th Circuit found that "lawyer health and wellness, community engagement, and public policy, fell outside the [Louisiana] bar association's mandate." How? Pro bono participation is strongly encouraged by most state bars, which certainly includes community engagement. There likely is a generational gap causing the lack of understanding because the judges have an average age of 69 years! Certainly health and wellness were not part of the era in which they began law. However, the profession is changing, and needs to change. #mentalhealth #wellbeing #LGBTQ #lawstudentdebt
