This research is fascinating, and so satisfying. LianShin Lin has figured out how to use two different kinds of #industrial #wastewater to purify each other, which not only helps create a #circulareconomy for the #energy industry's #water usage but also yields high-value byproducts like #barite. It's not a one-trick pony — variations on the process work for contaminated water from power plants, #shale #gas wells, #coal mines, even municipal wastewater sources.

I'm curious what fellow PEs (or aspiring ones, customers, etc.) think about Maryland's non-degree eligibility requirements. As a member of the MDSPE board and org, I support the Legislative Committee's efforts. The work experience track is important to retain for engineers who've put in years (even decades of work) and/or individuals who may have emigrated to the US and are unable to have their education formally recognized. Currently in Maryland, degreed engineers must pass the FE exam, build experience, and pass the PE exam. Anyone who's taken the FE knows it covers a broad range of topics, including math, physics, and general engineering concepts. However, a non-degreed engineer can attain 12 years experience and bypass the FE prior to taking the PE exam. In a field where disciplines and specializations vary wildly, it seems so odd to me that the FE is not a universal pre-requisite for taking the PE exam. If anything, why the FE is not treated as a requirement reserved SOLELY for those who've not successfully completed a formal engineering curriculum.
