Summary: The likelihood of a new gym member becoming a multi-year, valuable client skyrockets when this new member sees tangible results to their physique within 21 days of joining AND they’ve visited the gym at least 4x per week. For a few years now, my business partners and I at our gym have been testing different variables and strategies to try to maximize the lifetime value of a prospect who walks into the gym. We’ve tried different pricing levels, different offers, different campaigns, different levels of support, and other variables. But when we sat down and analyzed the data, two things stood out among the tests. The first was that the more “aggressive” physique transformation promises, in the sense of fat loss / muscle gain over a fixed period of time, were less effective: they resulted in increasingly more new members dropping out (and therefore not converting to long-term members.) In hindsight, this made sense, as the programs were probably too demanding for new members. But, members that were offered transformation promises – any promise - were much more likely to sign up, and then to stay. Those programs that promised good transformation outcomes without being too demanding did particularly well for conversion. The second data point that stood out was frequency of gym visits after signing up. We found that new members who came to the gym 4x a week or more were much more likely to become long-term members. (If you’re interested to know, there was a small but statistically significant increase in conversion between those new members who came in 5x a week vs 4x.) This also makes sense, as those who were consistent in showing up ended up creating a routine and habit of coming to the gym. It became part of their lifestyle. The highest conversion rates happened at the intersection of these 2 factors: When new members were: * Given a transformation program that wasn’t too demanding, and * Asked to come to the gym at least 4x a week as part of the program, and, * Constantly contacted if they didn’t show up for a session, ... they were much more likely to become valuable, long-term members. Based on this data, we at our facility have become obsessed about ensuring that new members see success over 21 days and ensuring that they actually do show up. If they miss a day, we email them, SMS them, call them and do whatever it takes to get them to come in. The results have been a big increase in customer LTV. I hope our findings helps gym owners and athletic facilities.

Boost Gym Sales: The Power of Pricing Strategy Choosing the right pricing strategy for your gym can significantly impact your prospects' decisions. If you aim to have them opt for your higher-priced packages, here's a practical approach: 1. Start with the Most Expensive: When presenting your packages to potential members, begin with the highest-priced option. This sets a frame of reference where the middle-tier packages appear more reasonable in comparison. 2. Psychological Pricing: It's akin to how electronics stores often showcase the most expensive TV first. This strategy influences perception and makes the middle-tier options seem like a great deal. By using this pricing strategy, you can guide prospects towards choosing the packages that benefit both your gym and their fitness journey. So, if you want to see more members signing up for your premium offerings, remember to lead with the most expensive package during your sales conversations!
