Ten months ago, a panel of experts met in the UK to provide updated guidance on the principles and techniques of debridement. The result is this extraordinary Journal of Wound Care (JWC) consensus document, to be published in JWC's June issue. The document proposes a new approach, integral debridement. It also categorises debridement methods, describes considerations for wound cleansing, and summarises recommendations for different tissue types. We are excited 🎉 to share the very first case using the Penumbra, Inc. #RED72SENDit outside the United States 🙌🏼. 65 yo male, last seen well at 6:30am where he stopped his car at the roundabout and was brought by EMS. Patient developed left-sided weakness, aphasia and found on the floor. He presented to the ER within 2 hours after initial symptoms. NIHSS 17. CT/CTA head and neck revealed good ASPECT score of 7 without intracranial hemorrhage. There was abrupt cutoff involving the right middle cerebral artery and occlusion of the right ICA from origin. CT perfusion showed large penumbra with 115cc mismatch volume. IV TPA was given as he was within window. In view of the favorable imaging and clinical status of the patient, decision taken to proceed with intra-arterial thrombectomy.
