🏐 Community Spirit Shines at Annual Volleyball Tournament 🏐 This past weekend, our local community came alive with camaraderie and joy during our annual volleyball tournament. People of all ages gathered to compete, connect, laugh, and most importantly, have fun 🙂 In our fast-paced professional world, events like these remind us of the simple yet profound joy of community. The prize? A humble banana. The real reward? The sense of togetherness and shared smiles that lit up the day. Sports provide many benefits to young children beyond just physical fitness. One of the most important benefits of participating in sports is the development of social skills. Its objective is to attract dynamic athletes interested in the fields of sports, education, health, and culture, and enable them to promote a more active, participative, and inclusive local community through the implementation of social projects. These projects will focus on fostering education, inclusion, diversity, and intercommunity respect, while also generating educational resources for the club and community. 🙌🏻Jita Kiyoei - Mutual Benefit, we harness the talent that exists in our community to maximize their capabilities through Judo and the daily work done here. These are seeds planted since 2007, and all of them, without exception, have bloomed and are now spreading their seeds. MUST READ: All Abilities Gala to continue the increase in inclusivity: Melbourne Victory have partnered with Transport Accident Commission (TAC) to host the second edition of the All Abilities Gala on Saturday April 20 to shine a spotlight upon the importance of inclusivity within football. The inaugural event in 2023 occurred as the curtain raiser to Melbourne Victory’s ANZAC round fixture against Macarthur FC. The event held at Gosch’s paddock consisted of training clinics and engaging activities, concluding with a 5v5 round robin all abilities tournament. This year, the event has increased in capacity. Two sessions for different age ranges will commence. From 3:15pm to 3:45pm, children aged between 4 to 12 will have their session, with the older contingent aged from 13 to 18 to participate in their session from 4:00pm to 4:30pm. Upon declaring their involvement for the event, all participants are offered a free ticket to attend the round 25 A-League Men’s fixture, where Victory will host Brisbane Roar at AAMI Park. TAC have been one of Victory's key sponsors since their inception in 2005 with the partnership nearing its 20th anniversary that is scheduled for next year. Inclusivity within society has become a point of focus for sporting codes across the globe - none more so than football. Members of society who face the difficulties of having special needs should have an engaging outlet. This allows for those to have a joyful and fulfilling, outdoor experience. Amongst other codes of football, the globally renowned variation tends to be far simpler and palatable, especially in terms of building skills and understanding general rules. Therefore, parents and guardians of those who have a disability may lean towards electing soccer as the sport that their kids can participate in, aware of the unique subtlety and non-aggressiveness that surrounds it when in comparison to the likes of Australian Rules football or rugby. The community event hosted by Victory simultaneously contributes to the community across Melbourne, while also increasing participation and appreciation for the sport of football within a state where it remains down in the pecking order of preferred sports. 🌟 Exciting News! 🌟 Introducing Game Plan AKL, a new initiative by Aktive - Auckland Sport & Recreation, providing opportunities for young Aucklanders to engage in sports and recreation. Launched on Nov 9, this initiative is made possible by generous donors. Game Plan AKL aims to empower 100 Year 9 students from 10 selected schools, breaking down financial barriers by offering up to $1,000 per year for five years. This support allows them to pursue their passion in various activities, including Table Tennis. Cost shouldn't hinder participation in sports, and Game Plan AKL addresses this challenge. With support from sporting legends like Dame Valerie Adams, Keven Mealamu, Ruben Wiki, and Laura McGoldrick, along with Deputy Mayor Desley Simpson, the initiative champions inclusivity and support for young talents. Aktive, covering all operational costs, has secured $500,000 for the first cohort, starting in 2024. Now, they call on Kiwis to contribute via Give a Little to extend the impact to the next 100 young athletes in 2025. Let's join hands for an active, thriving Auckland! My 2 cents on why having a good coach and event manager is essential for a padel club... 1.) Junior Program: A strong junior program not only fills up afternoon hours but also cultivates a lifelong love for the sport among youngsters. By engaging kids, we not only boost club activity but also foster family involvement that leads to them enjoying a game of padel over the weekend (as a family)... 2.) Community Building through Events: Well-organized events and mix-ins aren't just about fun; they're about fostering a sense of community. Through these gatherings, players of all levels interact, form connections, which allows for future game arrangements. People also realize that they need lessons after playing in some of these events so it is a great tool for getting new people for the coach. 🌐 As the Olympics draw to a close, and we celebrate the huge success of our Australian athletes, we take a moment to reflect on the importance of safety in sport. ⤵ ⚪ Last week, between the highs and lows of Olympic events, it was Safe Sport Day on 8 August. Safe Sport Day is an international day to raise awareness of the shared responsibility to safeguard children and young people playing sport. ➖ Regardless of the sport, or the level that it is played at, children and young people have a right to feel safe and to be safe while they play. ✖ We know from the research that when safety and wellbeing come second to winning - children suffer. ☑ Australian sporting organisations must have appropriate systems, processes, policies and procedures in place to safeguard young athletes - at every level they play at, from the local club to the global stage. ☑ These systems, processes, policies and procedures must then be embedded into every-day practice. ☑ Creating a culture of child safety, means that everyone is responsible for child safety from leaders and staff to families, children, spectators, and officials. 📨 If you know a sporting organisation that is ready to level-up their child safety game, pass on our details.
