Interesting that Volocopter does not mention the public outcry as the reason for the delay in certification. From my unfinished projects (there are many! 🙃)...here's a glimpse at a project I've been working on as for the past few months I've become fascinated reading about the future of urban air mobility. I've been diving into the world of electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing (eVTOL) aircraft, imagining how they might reshape our cities and travel experiences. This mock-up for a fictional magazine I've called 'Aquilae & Aether' explores ideas like aerial ridesharing apps and how eVTOLs could shrink our carbon footprints while elevating our daily commutes. My plan is to make and print copies and leave them out in the world for people to stumble upon. It's been fun to speculate on how these 'flying cars' might integrate into our lives. From Archer to Joby Aviation, Lilium to Volocopter, the designs and visions for this technology are as diverse as they are exciting. What do you think? Volocopter has announced that it is now an Approved Training Organisation (ATO) approved by the German Federal aviation office (Luftfahrt-Bundesamt) through its subsidiary, Volocopter Air Services. The Approved Training Organisation certification allows Volocopter to deliver training towards pilot licenses. As part of the approval, the company will work to finalize the training program for its electric VoloCity aircraft, implementing the newly published EASA - European Union Aviation Safety Agency regulations applicable to the operation and pilot licensing of this novel category of electric air taxis (eVTOL). "This is another substantial milestone on the way to bring electric air taxis to cities around the world. “ Volocopter the pioneer of urban air mobility (UAM), successfully conducted a multi-day flight test campaign (from 7 to 13 December) with a crewed 2X aircraft in the Japanese cities of Osaka and Amagasaki. This week-long testing campaign signifies the completion of the first steps of local flight testing to acclimate the crew, communications tools, and flight test procedures in preparation for the 2025 World Exposition, Osaka Kansai EXPO. The 500-day countdown to the 2025 EXPO has begun, and Volocopter remains committed to flying at this international exhibition with its commercial air taxi, the VoloCity. The purpose of these flights was two-fold: to test aircraft operations under conditions similar to those expected during the EXPO and to accelerate the public awareness of electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft in Japan. Local guests, including the Osaka governor, Osaka City mayor, prefectorial representatives, city officials, partners, and media, witnessed today's final flight test day event, co-hosted by Sumitomo Corporation , Volocopter’s strategic partner and investor in Japan. In addition, over 200 local primary and secondary school students joined as an "out of the classroom" learning event, conducting a Q&A session with Volocopter's Managing Director Christian Bauer, Chief Test Pilot Paul Stone, the Osaka Governor Hirofumi Yoshimura and the Osaka City Mayor Hideyuki Yokoyama, around the innovative eVTOL aircraft technology. Successful flight operations at the 2025 EXPO require preparation time and assessment on the ground. These flight tests were conducted at the Osaka Heliport in proximity to the planned 2025 EXPO pavilion location in Osaka Bay. This locational advantage gives insight and data into how Volocopter could shape eVTOL operations when the exhibition starts. The developments at Volocopter and Vertical Aerospace are quite sad and discouraging for the AAM market, but, these are not entirely unpredictable. Electric Aircrafts with all sorts of features, especially the ease of flying in and out, have sparked the imagination of all and sundry to an extent that no one was shy in investing millions into these promising platforms. Without malice towards one and all, the development rush has been invested on the head, the infrastructure to operate these services is precariously missing and that initiative has still been relegated to the back burner. Even though there is no reason to write the silent requiem for these missions, electric aircrafts will certainly have to cope up with the pains during the brief hibernation.

Would you climb aboard an air taxi? Companies like Joby Aviation, Volocopter, and Lilium think so, and they’re working hard to make it happen. The term is Urban Air Mobility (UAM) which aims to have electric vertical take off and landing (eVTOL) vehicles in our urban centers. Last week, eVTOL jet developer Lilium signed a significant partnership to take its aviation technology operations to the South of France and potentially other European regions. The German aerospace company is collaborating with Italy's UrbanV and France’s Aéroports de la Côte d'Azur to establish a vertiport network in the French Riviera, making it very possible that the region will become the first to facilitate regional eVTOL travel in Europe. Together, these three companies will develop a vertiport network to support regional eVTOL travel across popular destinations, including Monaco, Nice, Cannes, Golfe de Saint-Tropez and more. Based in Munich, Germany, Lilium is an aerospace company that works to build better ways of moving with its electrically powered personal air vehicle capable of VTOL flight – the Lilium Jet. Since its beginning in 2015, the company has consistently expanded its presence in Europe and the United States, increasing not only in terms of staff and offices but also significantly in terms of partnerships and collaborations.
