📰 EURICE's Quantum Technologies team is pleased to announce the publication of the 🇪🇺 European strategy paper for #quantum #research and #industry until 2030 ❗ 📢 Through our collaboration with the Quantum Flagship initiative in projects such as HPCQS_EU, OpenSuperQPlus, EuRyQa or PASQuanS2, we were able to contribute our expertise to the chapter on goals, challenges and recommendations for action in the field of #communication and #outreach to promote quantum technologies. The paper also emphasises the central role of HPCQS_EU in building a hybrid European infrastructure for High Performance Computing (#HPC) and Quantum Simulation and the contribution of OpenSuperQPlus to this endeavour, as well as the participation of both projects in national quantum initiatives, for example in 🇫🇷 France, 🇩🇪 Germany and 🇸🇪 Sweden. Dr. Ivan Deutsch brought this article by Matt Swayne of The Quantum Insider to my attention. Very glad he did because the article describes 7 US Cities that are notable for their high level of Quantum cluster development potential. Albuquerque is one of them! Obvious highlights are the labs and UNM with a special shout out to the UNM and Sandia Lab joint entity QNM-I. 🔬 Quantum Technologies: Signing of the Quantum Pact At the “Shaping Europe’s Quantum Future” conference on March 22, organized by the Belgian Presidency, 21 European leaders signed the “Quantum Pact”. 🌐 Objective: The declaration aims to make Europe the global “Quantum Valley” by supporting cooperation, investment, and innovation aligned with the European research program “Quantum Technologies Flagship”. 📜 Key Pillars of the Quantum Pact: 1. Support for startups and SMEs in the quantum field. 2. Increased investment in quantum research. 3. Expansion of the quantum investment pool. 4. Development of international cooperation. 5. Effective coordination between the EU and its Member States. 🚀 Austria Commits to Building a World-Class European Quantum Technology Ecosystem 🚀 We are excited to announce that Austria has recently signed the "European Declaration on Quantum Technologies," pledging to collaborate in developing a world-class quantum technology ecosystem in Europe. This initiative, led by the European Commission, aims to enhance European sovereignty, security, innovation, and job creation.🌍 As part of this commitment, Austria will support the commercialization of quantum technologies with €8 million in funding through the Austria Wirtschaftsservice (aws) and the FFG Österreichische Forschungsförderungsgesellschaft mbH. At Quantum Science Austria, we are dedicated to being a central hub for quantum research and innovation. 📣 On April 25, experts from leading knowledge institutions in the Netherlands gathered at the invitation of Centre for Quantum and Society and Rathenau Instituut to share their analyses of the societal impact of quantum technology and how they influence its development. 💡 The purpose of the meeting was not only to learn from each other's analyses and efforts but also to foster collaboration and strengthen each other's activities. Given the multifaceted impact of quantum technology, a wide range of topics were addressed, including: ✔The geopolitical dimension of quantum technology and bridging gaps between countries. ✔Strategic autonomy and informing political and governance entities. ✔Harnessing the economic potential of quantum technology and promoting responsible innovation. ✔Different transformation phases of embedding the technology and roles of stakeholders in key processes. ✔Security and sustainability considerations of quantum technology. ✔Societal participation in decision-making and shaping perceptions. ✔Bridging businesses with science, education, and skills. Key stakeholders in this field, such as WRR - Netherlands Scientific Council for Government Policy ECP Platform voor de InformatieSamenleving, Stichting Toekomstbeeld der Techniek (STT) and @WAAG Society were invited, to engage in discussions. 🤝The afternoon will lead to further actions, with Centre for Quantum and Society and the Rathenau Instituut taking on coordinating roles. Quantum technology is standing at the crossroads of science and society, with some parts already in the market, others being worked on in laboratories, and some still in the realm of future possibilities. Today we celebrate the operational launch of the OQI – Open Quantum Institute. Hosted at CERN, born at GESDA - Geneva Science and Diplomacy Anticipator, supported by UBS, the Open Quantum Institute is a collaborative initiative that unites the future of science with the powers of diplomacy to solve some of the biggest challenges facing the world and humanity. In the pilot phase, launching today, the OQI – Open Quantum Institute will build on its effort to-date and target the four key objectives: 1) accelerating quantum computing applications for humanity; 2) providing access to quantum computing for all; 3) advancing capacity building; 4) activating multilateral governance of quantum computing for SDGs.
