For years now AI has helped to advance the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals. But today, thanks to the rise of generative AI and advancements elsewhere, these efforts are accelerating dramatically. 🌍 We delved into the data into our latest research, analyzing over 600 use cases and 1,000 non-profit deployments of AI to see how this technology can deliver social good for the entire world. Several key use cases emerged, including: health and wellbeing; gender equality; quality education; and affordable and clean energy. But deploying AI in these fields is easier said than done and multiple challenges remain. We outlined what these are and how to overcome them here: https://lnkd.in/dkDzXvyW #QuantumBlack #AIbyMcKinsey #SocialGood

🌐🚺 Advocating for More Equal Opportunities and Gender Equality for Women. Artificial Intelligence and the Use of Algorithms Can Disadvantage Women. 💻💪 🌟 On this International Women's Day, let's reinforce the call for increased equal opportunities and rights for women. It's crucial to recognize that Artificial Intelligence and algorithmic processes might unintentionally put women at a disadvantage, particularly in the workplace. 🌐💼 📉 Impact of AI on Equality: While AI brings efficiency, there's a risk of unintended bias. Algorithms, if not carefully designed, can perpetuate gender imbalances, affecting women's advancement in their professional lives. 🤖🚫 💡 #IWD2024 #AI 🌐 Raising Awareness and Empowering: It's essential to raise awareness about potential biases in AI.

There is a lot of discussion around AI and whether AI will accelerate gender equality or perpetuate existing biases. I also had the chance to debate this topic recently at the WOMEN IN TECH ® Global. In short, what goes in comes out and it’s particularly important that if we want AI to accelerate gender equality we need to be conscious about the input and the data sets that are being fed into AI data sets and algorithms. There is so much evidence that AI systems have perpetuated inequalities amongst, women and men in different ethnic groups and also marginalized people. AI very much currently relies on human intelligence and unless we are conscious about the data sets and the way we frame the data AI will reflect our human biases. #ai #genderequality #humanintelligence #legalexcellence

🤖 AI & Women's Career Opportunities 🚀 Artificial Intelligence (AI) isn't just reshaping industries; it's also reshaping career landscapes, providing more equitable opportunities for everyone. Here's why: 1️⃣ AI can contribute to more equal opportunities in application and promotion processes 2️⃣ Skilled women in particular to benefit from new jobs created by AI In Germany, however, women are sceptical. In fact, one in three women (30%) believe that the increasing use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the workplace will reduce their chances of promotion. These are the findings of Civey on behalf of eco Association to mark #InternationalWomenDay on 8 March 2024. “Artificial intelligence can certainly contribute to greater gender equality and open up new career opportunities for women,” says Oliver Süme, Chair of the Board of the eco Association. Let's celebrate this day by embracing the potential of #AI to empower women in the workforce! 💪👩💼 Read the full news👉 https://go.eco.de/eAhEG9F #AIforEquality #futureofwork #womenintech

It was incredible to welcome so many women, both in our offices and online, for yesterday’s Women Leading in #AI event. The morning was full of discussions around #AI awareness, empowering people with the right skills to use this powerful technology and how technology can unlock business growth. I had the opportunity to share my insights on how to bring to life the different ways in which technology is helping close the gender gap, drive awareness around AI’s potential to accelerate gender equality, particularly given the rise in tools such as Copilot, as well as to highlight the ways in which Microsoft is helping to usher in a more inclusive future powered by AI. As with every new phase of technology advancement that has gone before it, AI transformation has the potential to chart a path to a more equitable and empowered future for all. #MSFTAdvocate #AfriCanAI #WomenInAI #AILeadership #Empowerment

Huge thank you to the 40+ of you who took time out of your busy Tuesday and attended our “Humans and the Machine - Humans in the Machine - Humans with the Machine: Gender Equality and AI 👩💻” virtual talk! We had a mighty room of ladies and allies dialing in from all corners of the world, including Nigeria, Argentina, Kenya, and Canada! The session focused on the role gender equality plays behind the scenes of AI-powered machines. It was so wonderfully humorous, informative and educational thanks to our knowledgeable speaker, whom we are extremely grateful for. Here are some key takeaways: - How gender inequality plays a role in each step of the data pipeline - Tooling and infrastructure setup considerations - Introduction of the “Muppetware” - how come so many AI systems are named after Muppets? (This is a fun one😉) AI is a fascinating topic and the fact that our event helped shed light on such an important aspect of this technology delighted us to no end. We are already discussing our next events as spring peeks around the corner 🌱, stay tuned! #womeninlocalization #womeninl10 #WLDE

🌐 Get to Know #DIVERSIFAIR 🌐 The #DIVERSIFAIR project is working towards addressing intersectional bias in AI systems. One of our key objectives is to promote gender equality within the sector, as women are heavily underrepresented in AI. The Global Gender Gap Report 2022 highlights the importance of digitalised Intersectional AI Bias training, as more women are engaging in online skilling, re-skilling, and upskilling. Despite progress, women are still underrepresented in STEM: the gender gap is most prevalent with only 1.7% of women graduating in ICT compared to 8.2% of men. Data ethics and fairness are crucial in the development of AI systems. While efforts have been made to mitigate bias, it is essential to address deeper structural inequalities. Machine learning models can be powerful tools in supporting initiatives to combat gender-based violence, like the Viogen project in Spain and the Eagle Eye AI platform in the Dominican Republic. Stay tuned for more #DIVERSIFAIR updates as we strive for a more inclusive and equitable future in AI. #genderbias #AIethics #diversityinAI #equalityinSTEM ✨🤖🌍

"A study by the Berkeley Haas Center for Equity, Gender and Leadership analysed 133 AI systems across different industries and found that about 44 per cent of them showed gender bias, and 25 per cent exhibited both gender and racial bias." "If current trends continue, AI-powered technology and services will continue lacking diverse gender and racial perspectives, and that gap will result in lower quality of services, biased decisions about jobs, credit, health care and more." "Removing gender bias in AI starts with prioritizing gender equality as a goal, as AI systems are conceptualized and built. This includes assessing data for misrepresentation, providing data that is representative of diverse gender and racial experiences, and reshaping the teams developing AI to make them more diverse and inclusive." According to the Global Gender Gap Report of 2023, there are only 30 per cent women currently working in AI. We need more women in AI, otherwise "we're looking at the world half-blind" https://lnkd.in/gmrw-yas #genderequality #artificialintelligence #womeninstem #genderbias #racialbias
