Austria has officially signed the European Declaration on Quantum Technologies! This declaration, first outlined last year, establishes a strategic cooperation between EU member states to promote quantum technologies, and a commitment to cooperate in developing a European world-class quantum technology ecosystem. Austria has long been at the forefront of research in the quantum field. By signing this declaration, it is committing to continue supporting the commercialization of the technology and the transfer of knowledge from fundamental research into innovative products and services. Our Co-CEOs Wolfgang Lechner and Magdalena Hauser commented: "In order to keep Europe at the forefront of quantum computing, collaborations between all member states are essential. From Optica Quantum [#OPG_OpticaQ], an ICFO and Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST) research team reports on the transmission of telecom photons entangled with a multimode solid-state quantum memory over a deployed optical fiber in a metropolitan area: https://ow.ly/8PBZ50QvYOA To the best of the authors' knowledge, this is the first demonstration of light–matter entanglement distribution with telecom photons and a multimode quantum memory using deployed fibers. There's a growing opportunity for Kiwi researchers to collaborate with UK counterparts - the UK seeks to be a key hub for quantum sensing technologies. We have launched a number of missions to have commercial devices up and running in the next six years, including a plan to have mobile, networked quantum sensors in the transport, telecoms and energy sectors. The challenge of moving from the ideas stage of quantum technologies to the industrial phase for a quantum tech can be met through international collaborations, like the recent bilateral quantum relationship formed between the UK and Canada. Just a few weeks after announcing a €2.5M European Union grant, Paris based Welinq have formed a partnership with French Quantum Computer Hardware company Pasqal to interconnect quantum processors in an effort to address the current scalability issue of quantum computation.  Welinq uses quantum memories to synchronize the signals emitted by the processors and have them run at the same pace. Pasqal already produces a fully functional, production-ready computer and its expected that Wellinq will become part of the Pasqal partner ecosystem of full-stack solutions Both companies are portfolios of Quantonation a Quantum focused fund with 170M in assets and early stage global tech fund Runa Capital, the investment team chaired by Ilya Zubarev and Serg Bell the co-founders of Parallels. Classical supercomputers are made by putting multiple cores on single processor and then distributing applications between cores and processors. Networking links help various processors communicate. For quantum computers to scale significantly, they’ll likely have to follow a similar model – built from multiple, interconnected processors Welinq quantum memories could be incredibly important hardware for applications in quantum computing and quantum communication. Welinq’s team has developed an efficient quantum storage utilising cold neutral atoms, with a storage efficiency reaching 90% it could be quickly deployed in quantum communication infrastructures to efficiently interconnect quantum processors. The move would greatly compliment the recent Pasqal roadmap focused on scaling beyond 1,000 Qubits. The UK recognises that developing quantum technologies is a global effort, and we want to work with international partners like New Zealand to accelerate quantum technology innovation. The UK National Quantum Strategy commits £2.5 billion to developing quantum technologies over the ten years from 2024, and we hope to see new 🇬🇧 🇳🇿 collaborations in this exciting technology, which will allow us to reach entirely new frontiers in sensing, timing, imaging and communications.

I'm very pleased to see the acceleration of #eu in the #QuantumComputing Economy with some ground-breaking actions and bold statements: - Become the #quantumvalley’ of the world - R&D programs alignment at EU level - Accelerate the transition from the “lab” to the “fab” and my favorite: "Build a pan-European quantum infrastructure of the future, both on Earth and in space" - how this is making so much sense to run a Quantum computer in #space. And for those who are not aware, address the largest challenge raised by Quantum Computing: the obsolescence of our current encryption techniques, like the entire #internet security standards. What an exciting time to witness and be part of the current acceleration of emerging technologies.
