🇫🇷 Anna Richards writes: Grenoble is a destination that exceeds expectations. It has a terrible reputation. When I moved to #France, it was the first place I stayed. As I deliberated about whether to live there or in Lyon, an hour away, people’s reactions said it all. “Why would you live in Grenoble?” they asked. “The pollution is terrible, there’s gangs, it’s France’s mafia stronghold.” However, the naysayers might be surprised to learn that Grenoble has in fact been named the best city in the world for quality of life by the Oxford Economics’ Global Cities Index. It scored full marks: 100/100, beating the other 999 cities on the list to the top spot. The “quality of life” category took into account life expectancy, #income per person, income equality, #housing expenditure, recreation and cultural sites, and… internet speed. I’m not surprised that Grenoble has come out on top. If anything, the antiquated reputation and the supposed high levels of pollution (greatly lessened since the election of a #green mayor) have served to keep the world’s most liveable city under wraps from the masses. The City With the Best Quality of Life Is in the South of France When we look for a place to live, quality of life is a basic requirement. So, if you are thinking about moving suitcases and luggage, we inform you that the destination to choose is in the south of France. Surrounded by mountains, most of the time with 'the edges' painted white, is a peaceful town, which recently won the title of the city with the highest quality of life. We refer to Grenoble, a city that is considered the capital of the Alps, and which obtained the maximum score in the 'Global Cities Index for 2024'. This study analyzes the best cities based on indicators such as life expectancy, income per person, income equality, recreational and cultural sites, internet speed and housing costs. Grenoble, in France, leads the Top 10 of the best cities in the world, followed by the city of Canberra, in Australia, and Bern, in Switzerland. Grenoble, France scores highest for Quality of Life category of our 2024 Global Cities Index🌐 Cities leading the Quality of Life category of the Global Cities Index are those with lower inequality and residents that live long lives. Most of these cities also provide residents with access to a wide range of recreation and cultural amenities. Grenoble tops the list , followed by the lone non-European city in the top 10, Canberra. These top cities face challenges like high housing costs, but those that can distribute high incomes equitably and offer strong health outcomes and amenities to residents will likely continue to stand out in the future. The city of Aarhus has been named the world’s happiest city 👏 The Institute for Quality of Life has just published the Happy City Index 2023 and Aarhus, the city of smiles, was ranked as number 1. (https://lnkd.in/dzkCZ5Gd) Spending some days off, maintaining our old house, I have thought a lot about growing up and working in Aarhus compared to other countries. I was born in Aarhus, I have lived most of my life in this city, but during my career, I have spent a great part of my time abroad. ·        I lived in Italy for some of my early years. Italy is a fantastic country. Just think about the food. The wine. The people. The culture. For many years, my closest business partners were Italians. Behave, and you will suddenly feel like family. No stress - tomorrow is another day... ·        I lived some years in Germany too. A great nation. Everything in the right order. Correctness. I love it. Easy to understand and integrate with…. As a Dane, you have the feeling of automatically being trustworthy. Making it logical to do your best to live up to these expectations. I have done business with people from nearly all parts of the world, gathering a feeling of knowing cultures and their differences. Lately, I linked up with Shanker Subramaniam, Country Manager, India & Singapore, Invest in Denmark. I read his article "Nordics - a region or a way of life?" and many things suddenly make sense. I have lived in Aarhus Kommune most of my life and still do. Scandinavia is generally a wonderful and healthy part of the world. Here we basically trust the fact that when you say you will do x and y, it is not just an acceptance, it is a commitment! #Tallinn stands out among world cities with a high quality of life index. In the Numbeo 2024 Quality of Life Index, Tallinn ranked 17th among 195 cities worldwide. The category assesses various factors influencing quality of life, including purchasing power, pollution levels, housing affordability, cost of living, safety, and climatic conditions. Tallinn has surpassed several nearby cities in the rankings, such as Berlin (44th place), Stockholm (42nd place), and Oslo (20th place). It is located on the outskirts of Cairo, where the new capital of Egypt is being built. Studies and exams are in English, and the exact same contents and procedures are followed simultaneously in Cairo and Lisbon ✍️ After its first year of operation in 2022-2023, the NOVA Campus in Cairo is promoting a series of lectures with top researchers from EUTOPIA universities 🗣️ The first lecture will be held on February 11th, 2024. Antonio Luna García, Associate Professor at Universitat Pompeu Fabra will give a lecture named 'Cities on the Edge. Sustainability Challenges for Mediterranean Cities. Tales from Barcelona'. The cities of the Mediterranean basin are some of the oldest cities in the world and have been able to adapt to multiple crises and transformations throughout their history. In this presentation, Pr. Luna García will explore the most important challenges of the contemporary city through the prism of the current environmental crisis. Contemporary Cities face several challenges: housing, mobility, governance and urban metabolic processes.
